It's a little after 10 a.m. and I've been getting everything done that needs to be done before the heat tells me to go sit down. I did a little outside watering, including filling up the bird baths and notice the little maple tree that I transplanted from my mobile home in Sequim is still doing -- except for the bottom bark area. I wonder if that means it's dying?
I hope not. I only have three trees in the back yard (all that I've planted myself) and I wish I had three more!
Neighbors are mowing on one side of me and the construction people are pouring cement for one of the houses out front. Sure glad I'm not an outside worker when the heat goes up like it does once in a while.
Jenni left about a half hour ago to get her monthly infusion in Bremerton. Don't envy her driving in the heat on the way home but she'll be able to come home and rest. She's been especially worn out the last few days with all the excitement and shopping for her new house furnishings.
My trip to Port Townsend was great yesterday as I always like to see cousins. If it hadn't been so hot, I would have visited other folks but I was anxious to get home and out of my clothes and shoes. I made a pot of coffee this morning and am going to let it cool so I can turn it into ice coffee for later in the day. Fried up a couple of frozen hamburger patties too so dinner will be easy -- and it'll be something I love!
I've got a fan running in the sewing room and intend to practice freehand quilting on my machine today. I'll have to watch a video about it first, however, as I can't remember how to attach the special piece. I've got a supply of rocks set out on the table so that will occupy me off and on for a few days. My ankles have been swelling in the afternoon/evening lately even though I felt I was watching my salt intake. I suppose it's just another old fat lady thing.
Jenni posted one of the senior grad pictures that Maddie had taken at Chetzemoka Park in Port Townsend. Man, but she's a pretty girl! I haven't got to see Hunter's yet but I know they'll be special as well.
My activity calendar continues to look grim. The only thing penciled in is to set the trash bins out on Sept. 8th. ha ha I am going to take the Bainbridge ferry some day in October, however. Ann Robson, Linda Pedersen, and I plan to taking in the Wings of Washington ride near the ferry terminal and then browsing around Pikes Place Market. I love going to the city but it can be a chore driving an hour and a half to the ferry and then walking on and walking off again. That never used to be an issue but these past few years walking has become an on again/off again exercise. I'm determined to keep moving, however. Having my walking stick along helps a lot.
Was interesting yesterday to listen to Laura, my cousin Brian's wife, discuss their airplane trip from Jacksonville to Texas to Washington. She thought they'd delay their flight to another city to avoid the horrible storms but nope! They had to experience some mighty scary moments. The flight attendant walked up the aisle telling everyone to buckle up, stay put, hang on, and don't get up because it's going to be bad! Lordy! I would have fainted. She said the entire plane was dead quiet. No one spoke, cried, or made a move. And it was a rocky flight where she put a pillow to her face and prayed. That probably would have made me swear off flying forever. But then I've already decided I'm not flying again unless I can afford first class and I really really want to go someplace. (not likely) I'm not afraid of flying; I just hate the narrow cramped seats and all the BS you have to go through to get onboard. Stupid terrorists!
Here's a cute cartoon I saw on Facebook. I'd like to get it made up into a 5x7 but Walgreen's isn't real good at enlarging the entire picture. Plus they're getting real picky now on what falls under copyright laws. sigh....
I've been so disgusted with Netflix and Amazon and Hulu's choice of movies that I'm seriously thinking of canceling at least one or two of them after Jenni moves. I'm back to watching seasons of The Sopranos. I tried watching some old television shows like Father Knows Best, Rhoda, Bob Newhart, Hill Street Blues, Odd Couple, Dick Van Dyke, and Mary Tyler Moore but nothing was entertaining me enough to keep me tuned in. I immediately turn off anything that has canned laughter. That drives me straight up the wall. I suppose my tv watching is evolving with age. Used to be I liked everything offered.
Well, I guess I'll go see if my sandals will let me walk around without foot pain. Not in the mood for these sweaty old tennis shoes today.
