Friday Errands

I felt punky all day yesterday and was confined to the house (IBS I suppose?) but oh well, this too shall pass. I did manage to get a cross stitched bookmark completed and started a new book by John Updike that I ordered at thriftbooks.com where Catie works. Actually, it wasn't a new book as it came out in 1989. Called Self-consciousness: Memoirs.  I've only read through the first chapter but I found it entertaining.  He grew up in Shillington, PA and from the way he described his school and town, I imagine it was much like our Lincoln Building in Port Townsend.  I also started one (from the library) called Early Warning by Jane Smiley.  It was after 10 before I headed to bed but I figured I was going to sleep well because the previous night was absolutely horrible! (and I did)

Woke up to a nice sunny Friday and knew I wanted to get some errands done with early.  Rite Aid said I had a prescription ready (although I hadn't called one it) so I stopped there first to see what it was. Their system is different from Walmart's where you have to call in and request a refill.  Rite Aid just does it automatically. The pills ready this morning was a blood pressure pill that I still had plenty of since the doctor had me cutting the pill in half. (was making my legs swell).  I took it anyhow as it was only $1.47 and that's good for three months. Even longer if I'm cutting them.

Next it was off to Joanne Fabrics to buy some baby material for a small blanket I'm making for a this shower in Hadlock at the end of July.  Really like getting in and out of all my stops and I can usually accomplish that with early runs.   Next, I headed to the Dollar Tree. Didn't really need too much as I only spent $10 but it's always fun to browse in there. I love you can get greeting cards two for a dollar.  Cards have gotten so expensive these days. Just like postage. No wonder a lot of people just use Facebook to send their happy birthdays.

I made such good time on the first three stops, I decided to go ahead and hit Safeway on the way home.  Wanted to buy some fruit and settled on these yummy looking black cherries. I usually like to people watch a bit when I'm in Safeway as it can be an interesting place. Today I saw a group of about 5 or 6 older guys with their caregiver.  Handicapped gents and one was announcing that he really had to go pee.  Another one told him "you went at home before we left."  When I stopped at the counter where you buy lotto tickets (I play Hit 5 and sometimes Match 4), I noticed the lady in front of me was buying maybe 6 or 7 boxes of cigarellos. I looked them up on Google...Unlike cigarettes, cigarillos are wrapped in tobacco leaves or brown, tobacco-based paper.
Those boxes cost her a whopping $80!  Man!  Then she bought a Mega ticket.  I suppose you really need to gamble if you're gonna buy tobacco.

I took my camera when I left the house as I never know when I might find something interesting to shoot when I'm out and about.  I didn't see much today so I took a picture of these motorcycle riders that were ahead of me when I got back to my neck of the woods.
Once I got to my street, I took another picture.  Yeah....it's boring today and I haven't got much to improve on it as this blog continues.
Even though I was feeling pretty icky yesterday, I did manage to get my sewing room rearranged just a little.  I really have to work on it to make the small space comfortable for moving around as I lay out pieces, cut, iron, etc.  I moved my record player to the living room along with some records and CDS and then had to rearrange the grandkids' pictures to another spot. It's all a routine I've made a part of my life. Ha!

I think I'm going to make up a small pan of clam chowder for dinner tonight.  Easy Peasy for the most part.  My tv viewing yesterday was hit and miss. I watched a couple episodes of Dexter where Colin Hanks was the bad guy. Then I tried watching Kiefer Sutherland in Designated Survivor but it was way too depressing.  I tried to watch a remake of this PBS series on The Loud family called An American Family but I didn't care for the quality of the film and I found it kind of boring anyhow. I was very interested in this documentary on the homeless (Sacramento was featured) but after a half hour or so, that was so depressing I just couldn't watch anymore.  So much wrong in this country. Including that chump in the White House. I had the news on long enough to see him puffed up in front of his crowd to announce he was running again. Oh Lord!  Please don't put us through that for another term.  I have never disliked a politician quite as much as I dislike this one.  And dislike is putting it mildly.

After I got home from errands I decided I would spend a few minutes weeding two little areas in the backyard that really needed it bad.  I wish I felt comfortable enough to sit down on the ground to pull the weeds that need pulling but I'm way too uneasy about how I'd get up again. I did bring out this old shower stool I use for sitdown jobs but it only works to a degree -- especially if the area you want to tackle is on a slant.  Here's my before and after attempts:

It's better than nothing but I really need a weed eater whacking away to get to the worst of it.

Well, I really needed more in the way of pictures for this post today so I went back to my keepers and found a drawing that was made by either Hunter or Maddie several years ago when we played pictionary.   This one was titled Xray.
