How’d you meet your spouse?
Lorraine: I had a blind date at a friend’s house. I met
George on his birthday, February 18th, and we got married May 3,
1936.
John: I went into Sears & Roebuck and bought her. She
cost an arm and a leg. I think I finally decided to call because I was lonely.
The kids were gone. Dana had gone off to Indiana or some place with a friend
and I was there all by myself.
Marcella: He never
said a word coming into Sears. One day I walked down to Safeway and coming
home, I saw that old green Chevrolet going by. Later that night he called and
asked me out to dinner. I really appreciated it too because he was on graveyard
shift. I still can’t believe we got married four months later.
Lillian: I met Jim
at a dance.
Arlie: We were both local kids. We had chance meetings and
eventually started dating.
Denny: I met Renee 22 years ago after my first spouse left
me and the kids the year before. I was referred to her by insurance clients for
insurance consultation. We had never met before but we attended the same
church. We met on my oldest daughter’s birthday, January 21, 1980, and we married
on November 29, 1980, in Port Townsend at my parent’s house.
Dale: Diane was a secretary at a small business machine company
where I hired on after being discharged from the navy.
Joyce: I met John Baldridge on October 3, 1963. His ship,
the USS Weiss, was drydocked in Portland and I was working at Standard Insurance.
We married three months later on January 4, 1964, in Port Townsend. Two weeks
later his ship left Portland for San Diego and I rode with three other Navy wives
to go down and find an apartment.
Jimmy: I’ve been married and divorced more than once. I
used to like to say “I do.” Thank God that’s over. I wouldn’t have time to
train another woman. Just kidding. My first wife was only 15. That didn’t last
long. Second one I met in a bar. That didn’t last long either. Along came the
biggest mistake of my life. I was married to her for 15 years and had three
boys. Finally married Holly and she’s a great wife.
Sue S: I met Don Johnson in a library at Central Washington
State College. We had seen each other at Peninsula College but never talked. I
thought he was the cutest guy I had ever met. He is still pretty cool.
Lill: I met Dana at a college dance at Western Washington
University during my first quarter of freshman year. He said I was the only one
smiling and he invited me to dance. We talked all night and had plans to travel
many places—which we have—but we haven’t made it to Australia yet. But there is
still time.
Marlee: My one and only husband of 26 years and I met in
high school. We were both in biology class together. He was a junior and I was
a sophomore. I needed a ride to the dance at the Fisherman’s Hall for Harbor
Holidays and he offered to take me—our first date. He had long hair and hung
out in the main hall with friends I always referred to as hoodlums. He ended up
being a really nice boy and we dated all summer and forever. He asked me to
marry him my senior year around Thanksgiving.
Cindy: I met Jeff through friends. He used to go over and
watch tv with Bob and Lisa. I stopped by a few times and saw this good looking
guy watching tv. I asked Lisa to fix me up with him. She did. We went out
and had a great time. After the date,
Jeff told me to call him some time. I
told him to call ME! He said he didn’t call girls. Guess what? He called me. We
have been together ever since.
Sue W: I met my husband at college.
