I woke up at 3 a.m. and while I was wide awake and rested, I knew I had to figure out a way to fall back asleep. Had I gotten up, I would have had to do quiet things so as not to disturb neighbors. Although I pretty much always do quiet things anyhow. At any rate, I've put up with this irritation my body insists on pulling over and over again so I stayed put. When I do get up, I invariably get way too tired before the day is over and have to take a nap. This also irritates me. I guess it was after 4 when I finally convinced my body she wasn't getting up. I awoke again (bad dreams as usual) around 7ish and decided that was close enough.
I had certain chores I had thought about doing today so I proceeded down that road. I put the foam bed mattress topper back on my bed because the place where I stored it (behind some bins) gave me little walk way next to the bed and I stubbed my toe on the bed frame. I already have a lot of issues with my feet so I can't be putting up with foot injuries too! Then I took off the one blanket I had on the bed, put it away until fall weather returns and decided to just use a sheet and my lightweight comforter. I'd like to sleep with my window open and I may do it this week as I hear hot temps are due but I'm always awakened by crows and pigeons and it's usually right around 5 a.m. Not a good way to start my morning.
I got dressed, curled my hair (as best I could--I've never been real handy with the curling iron), set up three fans in anticipation of the warmer weather coming, washed up the dishes, and fixed a light breakfast. I needed to put my car tabs on the license plate so I headed downstairs to get that off my list. Decided to stop at the dining room (there were only maybe 7 or 8 folks sitting in there) and as usual, it was quiet and no one was talking. Dreary. I looked over the continental breakfast the manager has changed the menu to so she doesn't have to cook. It was okay, I suppose. Yogurts, fruit, muffin, and coffee. Not sure if there was anything else in the other corner. I did notice a LARGE sign by the muffin container telling people they could only have one. Tacky.
She's not only stopped making breakfasts but she's changed the dinners to 1:30 instead of 4 and told people they can come down at 5 to pick up a cold bowl of soup in the fridge to take to their room if they're hungry. TWO triskets are included. Again..another note not to take more. Several people (including me) have gone off the "package deal" after our year is up and we aren't obligated to pay the $700 a month on top of our rent. I think that price has even gone up now. Maybe $710 or $725? This price includes bus service although you have to give a written notice days ahead that you need it. It also includes a maid washing your sheets and tidying up your apartment. That service, however, is not available right now because the maid (and her husband the bus driver) are both off for three months as she recovers from surgery. They don't have an activity director anymore so activities are limited to watching a movie in the living room, doing exercises (from a CD on the tv), and sometimes having a guy come in and pound on the piano. They are going to Chetzemoka tomorrow, though, so that's something.
I think what bugs me the most about this place is the way the manager is doing whatever she can to save money and to avoid putting in the work she needs to do. The cook quit after a few weeks so she's having to cook again. I saw a notice posted this morning that listed the menu for tomorrow and Saturday. It read:
broccoli salad, turkey sub sandwich, potato chips, peanut butter cookie
The next day read:
pineapple tidbits, pepperoni pizza, root beer float, I've seen their floats. One small scoop of ice cream in a paper cup with a can of rootbeer on the side.
I sure am thankful I'm fixing my own meals again. I feel sorry for those old folks and those with dementia who really need to have their meals prepared. Too bad they aren't getting better meals.
Okay. I've gotten that off my chest. Guess I'll go do my crossword and wordle now. Nothing much on my agenda except sewing. Maybe I'll pull out my box of rocks and see about painting. And there's always jigsaw puzzles if the mood strikes.
My daughter, Mary, is traveling from Vancouver to Des Moines today to pick up her friend, Candi and they'll go visit another friend, Tami, who is in the hospital in Seattle. She's hoping to get released today and if they do release her, Mary offered to drive her home to PT. Then she'll travel to Gig Harbor to visit her step mom, Penny, who is also close to being discharged home. Mary and Andy went to the ocean this week. Had lots of fun but the dog was happy to be home again. Pictures she sent me...
