Two weeks to go

I spent most of my day sewing.  Well, sewing and cutting. I've got to invest in a better pair of scissors. I did buy a scissors sharpener thingie but I don't know how great it works. Seems like I'm still struggling. Even thinking about getting some electric scissors.  I used to have a pair decades ago but they only worked so-so. Maybe they've gotten better.  I was pleased with what I accomplished today.  I had four large squares of material that I wanted to piece strips of fabric onto. I think they were 12 or 14" square.  I got that done, put sashing between them and then decided I'd start cutting strips of material that I've been wanting to use up so I can add borders to the four squares and eventually have a piece large enough to put batting and backing on for a quilt.  It's a lot of work doing those strips.  Ironing, measuring, cutting.  And while the end result won't be a color coordinated quilt, at least I'm getting rid of material I've been holding on to. And anything I don't have to purchase is fine and dandy with me.

I fixed a light lunch and then took an hour nap.  Seems like naps are becoming an absolute necessity these days.  I bought a 10-lb ham at Walmart. At least I think it was 10 lbs. Cut it half and sent that section home with Sue. Tonight I plan on fixing breakfast for supper. Yum.  I'll probably slice the rest and stick it in the fridge.  Yep!
Going to be one of those blogs that bore you to tears. But it's all I got.

Had Titanic  playing on Hulu while I sewed and then Moonstruck. I plan on finishing watching an Australian show tonight called Cheap Weddings. I think there's six episodes and they're pretty entertaining what with the personalities and scenery, etc.

I'm going to try out this sugar cookie recipe tomorrow to see if it is easy and tasty enough to use for Christmas cookies.  I plan on baking a few cookies  the week before Christmas. Probably just the kind you cut out although I might opt for some oatmeal too.  I'm also going to fix up a couple batches of fudge.

Am riding with Jen and Wayne on Christmas eve day to go to Mary and Andy's for the night.  We'll come back Christmas day and then on the 28th, I'll have Sue and Paul over for dinner. We may go out to look at Christmas lights too.  I haven't even set up my little Christmas tree this year and I just might forget about it. I do have my fake wreath on the front of the house and some lights in the backyard.  Also set out a handful of decorations but not nearly as interested as I used to be. Probably because the grandkids are grown now and never come around.

I'm not sending out cards this year either although I always enjoyed doing that in years past.  On the plus side, all my shopping is done and all my wrapping is complete.  Sue and I drove in to Port Townsend a couple earlier in the week so I could deliver cookbooks here and there. I posted the pics on Facebook but will add them here too for anybody who doesn't visit the FB page.

Joanne Lammers wasn't home so I took a picture of her ducks and chickens.
Linda Pedersen is having her annual family Christmas get together today. She decorates her house big time. Starts in October. (she's not quite right in the head)

Loved this view of the mountains and the high school taken from Laurel Grove Cemetery.
This was my favorite. Taken from Kris Logue's backyard. I wish I could live with her.
I put a painted rock on my grandparent's graves and laughed when I saw the chicken my brother put there a while back.
Barbara Shaw is going to spend a few months with each son next year. One in the area, one in Oregon, and one in Texas.  I admire her adventurous nature. Also envy that she has four sons who all treat her with respect.
Cynthia Roduin with her mom, Betty Worford at Kala Point. Betty and my aunt Lillian were long time friends.
Bill Arey hanging out at home
Carol Plaster and Sue pose for the camera
Joanne Gilles with a rock I painted. They're selling their house and building a new place in Port Ludlow.
                                                     me and Linda
                                                         me and Ruthie
me and Lee & Elaine Arey
                                       Kris Logue at her preschool
Lois Venarchick at her bead shop downtown.
                                                 Sandy Ellis and me
                                                       Teresa Arey
Paula MacDonald showing me a trail to a hidden tombstone.
I did a little research and the gravestone belonged to a 21-year-old seaman who died of pneumonia. His folks were from England

Paula and Rose and several volunteers have been working hard on getting Laurel Grove Cemetery back in shape. The difference they've made is remarkable.

Mary and Andy went hunting for their Christmas tree today. She posted a picture of Jake who was very interested in the fire truck there.

Well, I think I'll go start preparing the potato for hash browns. Have been working on a cross stitch sampler for weeks and am finally down to the last 1/3 of the design. Should have it done by the end of the year and then I'll have to decide if I want to spend the money to have it framed.  Costs an arm and a leg.

I continue to buy Hit 5 lottery tickets on a regular basis.  I think your odds are a tad better than lotto or mega or power ball.  Not that I've won yet!  But you never know. The pot is only up to $130,000 right now. It goes up every week.  I've been daydreaming about what I would buy if I won.  A new sewing machine, new scissors, a good  bra, a better recliner, new pair of sneakers, a good wig, a new laptop, a handrail for the steps off the back porch near the sliding glass door, new long underwear, and if I've still got money left, maybe a new car. A smaller one.  Course I'll give dough to my daughters too.  Oh, and maybe I'll get laser surgery.  ha ha   Silly me...

Off to the kitchen I go.... keep warm this week!
