Another nice day. Not too hot and just suits me to a T. I've been up for about four hours and finished what few chores were on my list --- watering the plants and filling the bird bath, loading the dishwasher, paying bills, and balancing the checkbook.
Yesterday when I was napping quite peacefully on my deck, sirens erupted and seemed to be quite close. When I read the paper this morning, I see a house across the street from Jenni's old place burned. I drove by this morning to take pictures. Just because I'm a snoopy ole busybody.Took a couple shots of Jenni's house while I was on the dead end street. I'll attach in this blog post if my phone sends them to my email fast enough. Sometimes it takes forever and patience isn't my strong suit.
Next it was up to the new grocery store (on my way to the library). Every time I've gone there, the parking lot has been pretty empty as well as the store. Nice looking place, though. I hope business picks up for them because Safeway is the only other places to buy food in this town and they have two stores. One on the east side and one on the west. There's always Walmart, of course, but that's 7 miles across town from my place so I'm not always interested in driving that far. Costco is always nice but that's a half hour trip one way.
I returned one of the four books I had checked out a few days ago. Was too sugary sweet and I wasn't in the mood. Am working on one by Ivan Doig right now. I also picked up half a dozen free magazines and left a painted rock in the parking lot.
I typed up a fresh telephone list and only had to delete one name this time. (cousin Ann) My step-sister, Shannon, called me yesterday to give me her new number and address. She's living in Yelm with her son and his wife and their boy until her house in Bonney Lake sells and she can afford to buy a small mobile. Her son's house is quite large (6 bedrooms) and her Bonney Lake house still has some cleaning out to be done. Mainly the garage.
Mailman brought me a postcard this morning. My half sister in SC is vacationing in Myrtle Beach for a couple weeks. I've been thinking I need to send out a bunch of postcards myself. I've had several onhand just keep forgetting to do it. Sometimes getting a postcard can be appreciated when all you usually get is junk mail and bills.
Going to work on my quilt again today. It's coming right along but as usual, I'm aware of my lack of color sense. I wanted to have the back of the quilt have various materials (I'm always using up scraps) but it kind of looks lame. I've been thinking of keeping this one for my own bed so I guess I can live with it. I tacked down the seams on the back side (it's a quilt-as-you-go) but I've never mastered blind stitches that well so my impatience is evident yet again. I'll live with it.
My fridge is starting to get accumulated with things that need to be thrown in a soup so perhaps I'll get going on that this morning. Am thinking I might whip up a small berry cobbler too. I bought a big bag of mixed berries at Costco and everytime I open the freezer, they jump out at me saying EAT ME!
Got a new crossword puzzle book from Amazon yesterday. I was really in the mood for a new book. Most of the half done books I have on hand are way too hard and that puts me in a bad mood! I also got a black ink cartridge for my printer. Always like to have a spare sitting by just in case. As I sit here at my laptop, I can see my wonderful little hanging wood decoration that Ann sent me. I sure do like it.
Well, I checked my mailbox and my pictures arrived so I'll attach them here. Had I taken my camera with me, they'd probably be better but my phone takes a halfway decent shot most of the time. First two are of the burned house and the others are how the new owners have changed Jen's old place.
