Wet November Tuesday

I've been keeping busy with one thing after another around here. I seem to be almost OCD in wanting to get as many things done in a day as I can.  I don't know why but the fatalistic side of me says perhaps I'm preoccupied with getting on in years and I want to get as much done as I can.  I've already accepted that I'm not going to get much done outside although if my body wasn't hurting all the time, I'd love to be out there pulling weeds and making things look a little better --even if the weather is damp and dreary. I took a picture of this one large sticker just off my deck that I'd like to get rid of but I downsized away ALL my garden tools.  What a dummy.

I do like being inside, though, and I have a ton of things to keep me busy. Like these....
Mary gave me this very complicated craft kit for my birthday and there are 26 pages of directions. I try to do one step a day, even if it's just gluing the tiny pieces and letting them dry. It's a challenge and a couple of the furniture pieces were just over the top annoying working with wire and teeny tiny maneuvers. That one got put aside (meaning it's not gonna' happen).
I love keeping busy at the sewing machine so I've started another quilt project. It probably won't be a quilt, however. Maybe a table runner or table top.  I found a pattern that didn't look too terribly hard so I'm making four of them as one project.
The pattern calls for five colors so I grabbed these fat quarters to play around with.

The design itself is called Aunt Vina's Favorite

Also working on a jigsaw puzzle and rock painting.
So many gift ideas for Xmas are showing up on Facebook now.  I look them over but most I decide are a waste of money. In my younger years, I wouldn't have felt the same but age changes you. Here's one that is supposed to help you keep your drawers in order. I have so many pairs of underpants and socks that I take them from the dryer and toss them immediately into their drawer. No folding for me.

One of the Facebook groups I belong to is Lost and Found Vintage pictures.  I've got this 1951? photo
of my mother, aunt, and 2 cousins that was taken at Fort Worden (I think) and I've always wished I could get some of the people IDd.  Mainly because I think one of the guys was my mother's second husband but I can't recall what he looks like. I asked one of my half sisters in PA if she could ID him but oddly, she couldn't.  She thought perhaps the one standing behind my mother (she's wearing a white top) but I kind of thought maybe it was the guy sitting in front of her. Perhaps it's neither.
The one I know that is still alive doesn't recall any of the people so I'm out of luck unless someone sees it on FB.   One lady was nice enough to turn the old black and white into color for me.

The ones I do know are the women sitting in the third row: my aunt Lillian Blankenship, Marlyn Walker (married to my cousin, Bob), my mother and standing on the right in back is Del Dubberly, who was married to my cousin, Joan Arey.  He's the only one still alive.

A friend on FB (Linda Johnson Derkland) shared this 1958 photo from her bridal shower.

Esther Arnold, Kit Moore, Linda Johnson, Linda Wilson, Karen Cuykendall, Barbara Lee Smith
Ida Johnson, Judy Bare, Kay Arnold, Harriet Higdon
Back row: Sharon Lindsey, Virginia Anglin, Judy Anglin, Juanita Lopeman, Karolyn Richards, Mrs. Anglin, ?, Mrs. Lopeman, ?

Went into Port Townsend last Saturday for a memorial for Lew Morello. A few of my classmates were there, including Herb Evanson, shown here.
I stopped to visit an old friend who lives on Beaver Valley Road as it had been years since we caught up. Carolyn Woodward Lopeman from the class of 1962.
Mary sent me a picture of Poppy who was enjoying being outside on a walk.  Must have been a muddy place.
Jake wanted her to send me a picture that would scare me so they chose this one (among others).
Which kind of reminds me of the show I've been hooked on for weeks. The Walking Dead. I don't normally like zombie shows but I'm loving this one. I end up staying up till 11 or 12 watching episode after episode.  Another show I've found on Amazon Prime is William & Mary starring Martin Clunes who was in Doc Martin on PBS.  It's a great show.

I've seen this picture of Chetzemoka Park before and always enjoyed it so thought I would post today.
I found a bag of rhubarb in the freezer yesterday so I baked up a cobbler this morning. Man, is it ever good.  Here's a super easy recipe for fruit cobbler.

1/2 C. butter or margarine
1 cup ea. milk, sugar, flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt or less
1 qt fruit

Melt butter in pan in oven. Mix dry ingredients with milk, Pour in pan and top with fruit. Don't stir.
Bake at 350 for an hour.
I sprinkled a little cinnamon on the rhubarb and I think a hotter oven might have worked better or a longer cook time.  It's delicious though.

Bio for Today:  Percy Faith

Percy was born in 1908 in Toronto, Canada. He learned to play the violin when he was seven. At 11 he was already working, playing piano at a silent film theater.  When he was 18, his sister’s clothing caught on fire and he stamped out the flames with his hands. His burns were so severe that doctors told him he could not play the piano for five years. He turned to composing and conducting. Seven years later he was hired by the Canadian Broadcasting Company to be staff arranger. Faith moved to the US to conduct The Carnation Contented Hour. Mitch Miller hired him to be director of popular music for Columbia Records in 1950. In February of 1976 he died of cancer.

My favorite song is "Theme from a Summer Place." It's been my favorite song since I was a teenager back in 1960.
