I went to physical therapy this morning. Got there at 10:30 (that was stupid 'cause my appt was at 11). Sat there with a hot mask on for a half hour. The lady was nice but I sure got depressed when I had to sit and lay on the table with a full length mirror next to me. Not that it was any big surprise that I'm that wide! My schedule seems to be through August, twice a week. Heaven knows I need it. My goal is to be able to walk up and down steps like a normal person, get up off the floor, and be able to walk further than I can now. I do intend to do the exercises daily as I know the weight loss is not going to happen if I can't get out and get walking. Which I really want to do since I can't ride my bike anymore and feel confident. So miss my bike riding.
Man, but that physical therapy place is huge. Big gym, lots of people needing help with body issues. My biggest problem was having to keep a mask on. It was so uncomfortable and hot. I did try to do the step climber and realized again just how weak my right knee is. I hope we can strengthen it. She seems to think we can.
Decided to pick up Mary Gaboury afterwards and take her for a ride around town as I wanted to get a few pictures. I had a little money left on my McDonald gift card from Sue so I bought us root beers and french fries. We drove here and there, mainly taking pictures of my relative's old homes.
I know I've done this before and it's probably boring as all get out to you but it's what I do. This is Lyall & Elva's house today and below is how it looked "back in the day."
This is George & Lorraine's house now and below that is how it used to look.
I took this one of the courthouse clock tower just because it was there in my face.
This house shown below is right next to George and Lorraine's old place. Where this house sits now was Lorraine's huge flower garden.
This block must have been meant to be garden area because a lady walked by while I was shooting and told me that the single woman who bought this huge house and had it built is a big gardener and this is part of her front yard. Curious to me why one person would want a house that large. Because she can, I guess. Good for her!
I went up to Laurel Grove to my grandpa & grandma's graves as I wanted to retrieve a painted rock I had put there years ago. It needs more painting and I'm setting up my rock painting tomorrow now that I've finished up sewing for a while.
I intend to paint rocks and do jigsaws both. Was surprised when I returned this afternoon to find this package at my door. Much to my delight, Carol Plaster had given me this beautiful set of 4 bird and flowers puzzles. 500 pieces. My favorite.
I have a $15 gift card to QFC so Mary and I stopped at the store to buy three donuts. One for Dave. I told him it was his anniversary cake.
I was sure glad to get back home again. Getting in and out of the car and having to wear a mask in this heat is just too tiring.
I came in, put on shorts, turned on the fans, and tuned in golf. All happy now.
And here's the last of my shoebox collection that I'm been discussing.
These are baby rattles but darned if I know which baby. Catie, most likely, although I think the pink one on the top right was Jenni's. I kept them in my sewing basket for years.Catie was my first grandchild and I loved this little locket.
These were her booties.
This religious badge was given to me by my mother when I was young. Might have been sent to me as a teen. She was Catholic and until my folks divorced, she was raising us Catholic too. My dad put an end to that when he got custody and I became a Methodist. I had so few things from my mother that I kept anything I received.
This didn't reproduce that well but it's another little Catholic necklace she gave me.
This was my Eagles pin. Mary G. had me join a lot of the civic clubs she was in. I still remember our initiation night. It makes me smile when I recall the marching from corner to corner to the piano music Helen Minish was pounding out.
I wasn't a Brownie so tthese must be from one of my daughters but I was a girl scout and a girl scout leader. Good times.
This necklace piece signifies the year I graduated. I wore that necklace for years and years.
Our Townsend buttons were worn at basketball games. Everyone in Pep Club had to wear a white top, our red and white button, and red beanies. We looked so cool. haha
I was watching a rerun of The Waltons this week when an old beau of grandma's came calling and they discussed high school days and how everyone exchanged calling cards. We did that but I'm pretty sure that tradition died out years ago.
I took shorthand for two years and another year in college. These are the pins we got once we passed tests for being able to take dictation for 60, 80, 100, 120 words a minute. I loved shorthand class. You had to buy a bottle of ink, and fill fountain pens with the ink, being careful not to spill. I still write myself notes using shorthand.
These are some more of my high school pins. The red one with a white stripe was honor society but I'm not sure if the T pins were service squad or pep club. Never thought I would forget those important details but I did!
And finally -- my barf bag. I'm not sure if it was Mary or Jenni who made this up for me and I can't remember the occasion. I think it was when I had a terrible case of the flu and had to travel. Maybe they'll remember. It did make me laugh later when I was well.
