Busy Today

I guess I'll start this post now while I'm sitting here having lunch. (turkey sandwich)  Heading downstairs at 1 as they're having karoke and I'm hoping a few will perform so I can take pictures and maybe a video or two.  Went to Safeway as I needed AA batteries  Got home and found out I bought AA4 instead and they won't work. Darn it! Now I have to go back.  I bet I'm not the first person to grab the wrong pack like that. I've never even heard of AA4's.

I babysat Janie's dog, Lucy but only for an hour or so while she went to the dentist.  I spent a couple of hours organizing and cleaning and sewing.  Projects I wasn't keen on doing.  Had this huge bin of scrap material to use for crumb quilt squares but I was getting discouraged at how much there was go go through I decided to break it down into long strip pieces and other smaller pieces.  More manageable now and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I gave a large bin of material to the activity director at Avamere yesterday so she can use in their projects. Was happy to get my supply thinned down as I knew I could never get through it all. I still have lots on hand but at least it's all confined to bins in my bedroom now and I was able to clean out the hall closet.  I've got one quilt pinned and waiting for me to quilt and am working on these projects too.
This is the pile of crumb quilt pieces I'm sewing in strips to start. I try to limit myself to working on it a little at a time so as not to get bored or tired. The next photo shows my 6" squares that I'm sewing diagonal strips on. I've done 46 so far but may quit with 52.

And when sewing wears me out, I head to the table in the front room to work on genealogy. I finally cancelled my free week of newspapers.com last night so I wouldn't be tempted to stay on there too long. I can still use the website for two more days, though, so knowing me, I'll think of something else I need to explore.

Yesterday morning I spent a couple hours trying to figure out why my external hard drive wouldn't load up. Was getting upset because I have a ton of  data on there that I want.  Finally contacted my IT woman (Mary) and she thought the cords were probably no good so she sent me an Amazon link to order them and they should arrive tomorrow. She's also got an extra external drive she's not using that she said she'd give me. I'm thrilled. You're supposed to have your stuff saved in three places and I haven't quite got to using dropbox yet like I intend to.

One more chore I hope to finish this afternoon is winding up all my bobbins. It's a chore I don't like so I wait until they're all  out of thread and do them all at once.,

Did the paperwork for my rent increase with the manager today and thankfully, it's only going up $12. That makes me very relieved.
I've got a doctor appt next Monday to discuss various questions I have. With a PA, not my doctor. I'm not even going to attempt to get into see her anymore.  I went down to the express clinic a few days ago to get a covid test (only way I could get into the doctor) and they texted me yesterday that I was negative.

I have Sammy, my new dog, sitting outside my apartment door. I had given it to Jenni years ago but she "lent" it back to me for a while as she felt I needed a dog.  It's gotten a log of comments. The first morning when I was leaving the apartment, I saw it there and jumped!  Love my memory.

And here's a cute pic I saw on Facebook. Probably seen it before but it still makes me laugh.

I was getting discouraged on newspapers.com because I wasn't finding as much stuff as I thought I should be able to locate. Problem is, a lot of the communities that my relatives lived in in Illinois were just little farm villages with  no newspaper. After a while, I thought I'd look around and see what I could find on other folks.  Portland seemed to have a big variety on the years you could browse so I looked up my old boyfriend, George. Never did find an obit but being the snoop I am, I was able to find his marriage certificate and a high school picture. He got married 6 months after we broke up and I found his girl friend's high school picture too.  I thought she looked a lot like me.  Anyhow, they divorced and it kind of looks like she may have married 4 times or more. Here's George in high school.

I also found the house in Colton, CA where my ex lived before he went in the navy in 1963. This is the house he took me to right after we were married so I could meet his family. He didn't have anyone at the wedding.
Well, I guess I'll go downstairs and see if anyone will sing.  I know Emmett Johnson will. Maybe I'll post on a second blog later today (or Facebook). Depends on what kind of film I get.
