I don't think I'm a hippy or a hippo (although there are probably some who would debate that) but I've decided maybe I'm a hipster. Seeing as how that appears to be the body part that is going to cause me grief this year. Now that I think about it, though, the knees and shoulders have had their turn at bat as well. At any rate, I can see I'm not going to pass through my golden years keeping busy with physical chores and hobbies. Gonna be a sit down life for me. Kind of like it's been for decades.
I took the soft foam mattress topper off my bed last night (a habit I've developed through the months) to see if perhaps my back wouldn't feel better sleeping on a firm surface. I've tried this routine out more than once with no result but I keep on trying. I think I sleep sounder on the soft surface but who knows. And who cares?! Dreams were certainly interesting but then they usually are.
I woke up pain free (as always) and hoped against hope that today would be the day I could walk without needing the cane. Didn't take long to figure out that wasn't gonna' happen! Damn it! I did manage yesterday to get batting and backing onto my latest quilt top (about twin bed size) and that was no small feat! This morning I pinned everything together and started tying it. I got about half done and decided to do the other half tomorrow. Then I'll work on pinning the edges so I can sew them on the machine. I took a break from that to work on this other project in the works where I'm sewing strips onto 8x8 squares. It's easy and takes no effort to sit there and sew while the tv entertains.
I took a break from that to fix a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch and work a crossword puzzle. Then I headed for the recliner to read my latest book -- a biography about Paul Simon. And it's good!
I love the author. I read one he did of Johnny Cash and I think he has other stuff out there too on celebs. His name is Robert Hilburn.
I studied up symptoms of sciatica and bursitis on the computer to see if I could pinpoint which of those is in the works right now. I'm kind of leaning towards bursitis although it could very well be a nerve in my low back since I've had issues there for many many years. I printed off some exercises and will try to do a few on my bed tonight. Can't say that I'm looking forward to it either!
I boiled up a piece of chicken for dinner and will try out this recipe using cream cheese, pepper jack cheese, salsa, and something else... I may end up just playing around and concocting whatever comes to mind. It's no wonder my cooking skills have gone down the toilet.
I tried watching several different shows last night but nothing seemed to hold my interest. Probably 'cause I was tired. I did find some things on PBS but to watch the stuff I really wanted to see required a "passport" from PBS. Another way to take my money. Got a bill from Angeles Electric the other day which sent my blood pressure up. The guy was here for 5 minutes, took the vent cover off, said it looked nice and clean, put it back on, and that was it. The bill was $97! I called to protest but she went on and on about how electrician's get good money nowadays and the taxes, blah blah blah! She finally agreed to lower it to $62 but I would have preferred $30. Lesson learned. I'm not calling anybody for service work unless I really really really need it!
My daughter, Sue, is coming by on Friday to weed the front garden area for me. If it isn't pouring down rain. It's really in need of work and she does a terrific job on gardening chores. And congrats to my granddaughter, Maddie, who made the Dean's List at Central in Ellensburg this past quarter.
The plastic liner I had in my large bird bath seems to have developed a crack or hole as it's not holding water anymore. Can't anything last these days?! I may go over to the Airport Nursery near here to see if they have any. Maybe I'll call first. Going anywhere with that cane is more trouble than I care to deal with.
On my to-do list for tomorrow I hope to bring a storage bin in from the garage and sort through my clothes in the closet putting everything in two bins instead of the one I am using now. I really should downsize while I'm at it. So many pairs of sweatpants, pj's, jeans, summer clothes, and I'm way overdue on getting down to the basics.
Had country music playing on Pandora all morning long while I worked on that quilt. Finally had to turn it off as I was getting too depressed. I do love those old tunes of Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Don Williams, and Hank Williams, Jr. I see on Facebook that Earl Thomas Conley died. He was a favorite too. All my heroes are dying off, it seems. Hank Jr is still belting them out, though.
Well, back to the recliner I go. I think I feel a nap coming on.
