For whatever reason, I tossed and turned all night long. Constantly glancing at the clock to see what time it was. Odd how there are some nights I can just doze off to dreamland and not wake up (except to pee, of course) and other nights, it's a big wrestling match with the blankets and pillow. I decided to throw the towel in at 6:50 a.m. which means I'll probably be needing a recliner nap before the day is over. Oh well, this is my life now.
I took a hot shower and started my morning routine of opening the curtains, checking the weather, loading the dishwasher, making coffee, and deciding if I wanted to bother with cooking breakfast. I haven't felt like it much for weeks but I did fry up some hashbrowns today and poached an egg. Had a little orange with it too and toast. Then I proceeded to move the half dozen flower pots I had on the kitchen counter to the deck. I don't think my bulbs appreciated being transplanted because only one daffodil has bloomed so far.
I tried running a couple errands yesterday at noon but once I got on first street trying to get across town, traffic was moving so slow that I figured out right away there must be a snarl up ahead and that meant traffic was not going anywhere. That's one problem with Port Angeles. If anything at all happens on the highway coming into town, everything is stalled as there's only one way in and one way out. A real nuisance. Having been caught in these more than once, I decided to forget my errands and turn off the beaten path and head back home. Read in the paper this morning that a car accident happened a couple miles down the road and traffic was stopped for some time. Glad I left.
I left early this morning (9 a.m.) to try and run my errands again. One thing I've noticed about Friday drivers -- they're always in a hurry. I've noticed this in other towns I've lived in too. Come Friday, you're dealing with tailgaters almost the minute you leave the house. And my first tailgater started one block from my garage. I stopped by the bread store to pick up a few items and decided I'd venture to Walmart and see if they had a large plastic thingie you put under planters. I needed one in my bird bath as the other must have got a hole in it and then the wind carried it off. I struggled walking with the cane but I'm resisting getting a rider cart -- at least for now. Once I got to the garden area, their supply of what I needed wasn't there. All their things were too small. Was irritated that the gate into the garden center at the left hand side of the super store was closed so I couldn't park close by. The clerk had taken it upon herself to close it for whatever reason.
I hobbled on back to the car and decided I'd just head home. On the way, I thought perhaps I'd hit this nursery in my own neighborhood -- called Airport Nursery. Relatives of Wayne's. They had a 14" plastic pot holder that I thought might work and it was heavier plastic than the other see-through flimsy one I previously used. Bought that and a sock for thistle seed since I found some leftover seeds in the garage, and picked up a couple of small pansy plants. Always love seeing pansies growing. They were kind of expensive, though, so I only bought two.
second tree in back is finally getting some buds
tulips and daffodils sure liked our rain spell
I managed to finish a small quilt yesterday. Took a lot of effort since being on my feet wasn't going over real well with my stupid hip and back. Today I'm going to hang out in the sewing room and work on other little quilt square projects underway.
Since the kitchen table was available again, I pulled another jigsaw puzzle off the shelf in the garage to occupy myself for the next few days. Once dinner is over, I usually head to the recliner and surf the Roku for various things that might interest me. Sometimes I'll stop on an old movie from the 60's or 80's but more often than not, I'll continue surfing here and there, always impatient to find what it is exactly I do want to watch. I have got two books going right now also. Biography of Paul Simon and a western written by a local woman. Picked it up at a craft fair held at the Masonic Hall a few months back.
My YoutubeTV channel that Mary bought me a 6-month subscription to at Christmas is about to run out and I've been debating on whether or not to renew it. I was pretty much convinced I would miss golf too much but then Youtube announced they're raising their prices $10 a month. Since golf, the Seahawks, some baseball games, and the award shows are pretty much all I really want to see, I've decided I'll have to let the channel go by the wayside. I looked into getting the golf channel only but my God! They want $50+ JUST for it alone. Why do people have to be so damn greedy?!
There is plenty to watch on Amazon Prime (and Hulu and Netflix & a couple other free stations) so I'll satisfy myself with those. Lately, I've found myself heading to bed at 8 or 9 at night anyhow. If I make it to 10, it's unusual -- and I seldom watch tv during the day. Only have music on.
Mary and Andy are going to Victoria later this month for their anniversary (Jake's going too, of course) but Poppy is going to be dropped here. Me and Jenni will take turns entertaining her for the two days. We have a dog park nearby and while I'll probably be hobbling with a walking stick, I do intend to take her out as much as I can. Looking forward to it and I love that I'll have dog pictures to post on Facebook. Speaking of which, here are a couple I saw posted on Facebook a while back that I saved.
Sue may come and do some weeding for me today but maybe not as it's kind of wet outside. It'll wait. Another guy is supposed to come by and give me an estimate on doing regular lawn care. Since the rains started, the lawn has decided to grow a little faster and it's looking shaggy out there.
Well, I guess that's all I can bore you with today. I'm off to make a mess in the sewing room now.
