Memories

Well, another high school alumni get together completed.  Seems like each year gets a tiny bit harder to navigate my car towards the Elks building. Sometimes, though, you just plain gotta' do it. There's always that "this could be the last time" thing hanging over your head. Last year I took my walking stick hoping it would help me stay on my feet and moving through all the photos I wanted to get. Yesterday, I settled for my cane. It's funny how you fight that image of needing a cane to walk. I remember how my dad hated giving in to using his cane (the one I use now) and then how he fought against the walker, and finally, how he pretty much requested the wheelchair.  Sometimes you reach that point where you throw in the towel and accept the body wants a little more rest.

I noticed that the crowd this year was thinner than years' past. I think the reunions go through cycles depending on the classes involved. Sometimes you can't hardly move through the throng of old faces and other times (like yesterday) the floor space is freed up more.  Joyce Lee (class of '58) was pretty sure there wouldn't be many from her class there, and I was pretty sure my classmates would amount to that handful that get themselves there, do or die!  She saw and visited pretty much exclusively with Shirley Myers. Jan Higdon and Dick Spindor were the only others there from her class.

I missed getting pictures of Les Walden, John O'Brien, and Walter Moa. Those I did see included Mary Gaboury, Sharon Sofie, Ruth Kvinsland, Karen Jovag, Liz O'Brien, Herb Evanson, and Dave Worley.

Well, I guess I better get back to what chores I had on my list for today. I did get outside to fill the bird baths. All three were empty.  My son-in-law, Wayne, came by to cut the grass yesterday so it looks halfway decent out my window.  He also took down a beeping smoke alarm that I couldn't reach as it was on the highest ceiling in the house. Damn thing woke me up at 4:45 and I had to listen to it until Wayne arrived five hours later.  He was reluctant to climb up on the old ladder I have leaning against the side of the house. Can't blame either as it was one rickety piece that really needs to go to the dump. My dad used it in the 60's I think. Maybe even before that!
I opted to not put the smoke alarm back with fresh batteries because it's not the first time the smoke alarm would continue to beep even with new batteries placed inside.  In fact, I put the alarm on the kitchen counter WITHOUT any batteries in it and it still beeped! What?!  Wayne said he had the same problem with a smoke alarm at his house and he threw it away. Says he's a little concerned about how he's going to change the one alarm in his house once it starts beeping because it's so high up, his ladder won't even reach it and he may to go find an extension ladder.  Why builders insist on putting those alarms where you can't get to them is beyond me!  Mel Mefford told me yesterday that he bought a set of two smoke alarms at Costco that you can attach anywhere you want them yourself and they're guaranteed.  I may look into that as I have at least 2 or 3 alarms now that are not working.

I decided I really needed to get back into my regimen of fasting so today is the day.  I did it a few months back and was successful at losing weight. But then...well, you know how it goes. The hell with that!  ha ha  At least I don't have to think about what to fix for dinner tonight.  I started on a new prescription this morning too. A water pill to see if it would help my b/p and leg edema. It's gonna be a fun day I think.  NOT!

Oh well, I've still got golf I can go watch. My subscription to youtubeTV runs out June 22 so I'm thinking I might subscribe to HuluTV as they offer the golf channel. I already have Hulu but the TV part is more expensive. Like $44  I think.  I'll probably decide to sign up. I will miss watching golf.

Joyce and I stopped at the casino for dinner and a little gambling. Neither of us won, though. No big surprise there. It sure was hard driving home against the sun at that time of evening. And of course, I was heading west the whole time. Was very relieved to pull into my garage. First thing I did was get on the jammies, take off the wig, and sit down to download photos.  Watched another episode of Dexter before calling it a night.  That is one gruesome show but I'm hooked on it. And it's the second time around for watching it. That probably says a lot about me. ha ha

And last but not least, a cartoon I liked this week...
