Spent about an hour at the doctor's office this morning. Had been waiting for weeks to get that cortisone shot in my hip. Man, it caused me a lot of grief these past three months. I took my own blood pressure cuff in to see if the high readings I was getting were close to the same numbers the clinic visit would indicate. My cuff was giving me high numbers and I hadn't been bothered with hypertension for some time. I'm sure the problem I've been dealing with regarding leg edema is tied into that. At any rate, she's gonna try a water pill next as adjusting my b/p pills hasn't seemed to make a difference. Worrisome but when you're 75 and fat, you gotta' accept that you're not going to be the healthiest specimen to walk down the road. I am going to make an effort to do better with diet and exercise, though. And I wonder how many times I've uttered that sentence in my life.
I stopped to get some lottery tickets. A couple of the jackpots are pretty high and while I don't usually play those (I prefer Hit 5 only) I did purchase some chances today. I went online to see what numbers were called on my birthday in the last two years. Figure that system is just as good as any other. I also checked what numbers came up the most for each game and I played them too. I don't have any expectations that I'm going to be the big winner showing up on tv but I can dream.
I'm continuing to work on my sunbonnet Sue days of the week wall hanging. Have finished Sun, Mon, and Tuesday but Wed will take a little longer as it's two squares and has Sue outside on a stool with her cat under a tree and clothes on the line while she does mending. At night I'm working on cross stitch as I sit in my recliner with my feet up. Finished a Donald Duck book mark and now I'm halfway through Pluto the dog. I've had three quilt tops sitting in the back room waiting for me to find the energy to put them together with batting and backing. They're all lapsize except for the one I have left waiting for me and it's a little bigger. Here's the latest...
I've kept a list of Pulitzer Prize book winners and decided it was time I started reading better books. I just started Foreign Affairs from 1985 by Alison Lurie. I also want to read some John Updike books. I found one of some of his short stories while at the library so I picked it up.
Have been browsing through various selections on Amazon Prime and watched a pretty good documentary the other night about drive-in movies. I actually learned a few things I wasn't aware of.
I watched Robert Redford in Three days of the condor but decided it wasn't all that great this time around. I also started on Mr. Rock and Roll: the story of Alan Freed starring Jud Nelson but it was pretty pathetic. I think there's another one available starring Alan himself so I may check it out.
I had golf on all weekend but whenever Tiger is playing, the cameras pretty much follow him exclusively == even when he's not in the running to win. Overkill. There are a few golfers I prefer over others and some of them I don't like at all. Even though I've never met them or really know anything about them. That's the public for you.
Tomorrow I'm heading into Sequim to have lunch with Mary Norton. Will probably make a quick Safeway run while I'm there too. Saturday, it's off to the Elks Club for the annual high school reunion social hour. Joyce Lee is riding with me and Mary Gaboury is following me back in her car so she can spend a couple days. Nothing else penciled in on my calendar for June outside of taking the trash cans out to the alley every other Thursday night. Yep. My life is fast paced.
I took my laptop into the living room a couple days ago so I could sit with my feet up and finish up a project I never seem to get to -- putting photos in folders by category so I can find them later. I could really stand to file more but sometimes you just need to walk away.
Uh oh....I'm getting tired now. Seems like I need a nap most days. Probably because I don't usually get to sleep all that great during the night hours. Woe is me.
Here's more pictures Mary posted. Jake at Dozer Days in Puyallup, taking Catie out to dinner for her birthday, and Jake catching a fish at an event in Renton.
