It's 10 a.m. and I've been up for three hours. Today is fasting day so I'm making an effort to stay busy until bedtime. And I've been halfway successful so far too! Decided to take a water pill even though my last go around with it gave me horrible night time foot/ankle cramps. So miserable and my ankle area ached all day long the following day. This time I'm drinking some vinegar water, drinking more water, and taking potassium twice a day to see if I can hold those buggers off. If they return, then I may opt to only take the diuretic occasionally. It's supposed to help lower my blood pressure but I complained at my Friday appt that the water pills were making me unhappy. She upped one of my regular b/p pills to two a day to see if that would help. Odd thing is, my b/p readings in the doctor's office are always okay; it's only when I take the reading at home that they seem to be way up there. Today it was 170/93 yet last Friday at the doctor's office it was 114/68 -- which is about where I usually am. I'll give the cuff another month and if it continues to be way off from the doctor's readings I may send that sucker back! I don't need the added stress.
One of the first things I wanted to do this morning was put in a little time outside in the yard pulling weeds. Oh, how they love my yard! I actually like working outside puttering around and would do it a lot more if my body would cooperate. Most of the time I can't even walk across my very unlevel backyard without a walking stick. Sometimes my hips and/or low back are in no mood for me to be bending over, and if they're behaving (like they were today) then BOTH shoulders decide they might not want to be participating in what I've got on my agenda.
I was determined to get at least 15 minutes of work done outside and I managed close to an hour. Boy, was that a surprise... a nice surprise. I just tweaked stuff here and there and filled a bucket with various weeds that I was able to get out without a lot of tugging. My poor roadside curb needs weeding too and luckily, those dang horsetail weeds will come out easily. Only problem is, they grow back quickly. Twice we've cleaned it out and laid bark and twice, that stuff has come back with a vengeance. I don't think you can kill it.
Here's how it looked a couple years back
And here's my neighbor going to a lot of trouble to prepare the area for new bark. (bless her heart!)
And here's the spot this morning. Sigh......
I have a small area underneath the front window that fills up with weeds pretty quickly but I took my time and got in there to give it a little clean up. It's a difficult area for me to maneuver and I'm always on my guard 'cause that's where I had a fall a few years ago -- and then everything went to hell!
It doesn't look like much but here's the area I worked on earlier and the pots on the back deck that got a little attention too.
While working in the front, I heard the neighbors up the street having a row! Lots of Fu You's being thrown back and forth. Always makes me happy I'm single when I observe or hear stuff like that. Since I had my camera in hand, I took a picture of my neighbor's blue bush. I have one (as does my other neighbor) over by the mailboxes but I trimmed mine back a few months ago so now it's smaller than the other one. They're terribly ugly when it's winter but something to behold in summer time. Not sure what they're called. Maybe I'll google it later.
Yesterday I watched golf all afternoon. Had to put it on mute a lot because the commentators at Fox were driving me nuts. Then I saw Godfather II was on another channel so I hopped back and forth with that. Doesn't matter that I've seen it half a dozen times or more; I do love that movie!
Last night I watched one (documentary type) on Netflix called Life in the Doghouse. Super good. Made me wish all over again that I had a dog. Here's one Mary sent me yesterday of her Poppy.
I rearranged the sewing room yesterday. Not a lot; just took out the card table as I felt it was taking up too much room. I'm going to head in there in about an hour and see what I can find to occupy myself.
I almost hate to start anything as I got all the material sorted and put away neatly --but that's just silly. Sewing rooms are supposed to be messy.
I'm heading into Port Townsend July 28th (if not sooner) to attend a baby shower for Mary Gaboury's granddaughter. Guess I'd better get busy on a blanket. Tomorrow is a trip to Safeway (isn't that exciting?) and Wednesday is lunch with the girls at the casino so we can help the Indians get richer.
I finished watching the Bob Dylan documentary called Rolling Thunder. It was okay but nothing special. I did enjoy the actual footage of his singing. Well, off to do my crossword puzzle online and maybe a solitaire game or two on my other computer.
If you put down cardboard instead of newspaper or thick pads of newspaper, then beauty bark, it works much better to stop the weeds. repeat every couple or more years. Lois
