Post Sale Aches & Pains

I knew I would be happy when that LAST garage sale project was over and done with. I'm not quite as happy as I planned to be, though; still have a lot of stuff to unload.  It's a little sobering to look at everything I have accumulated while just being in this house.  It's even more sobering to think back on the many, many sales I've had over the decades and the stuff I've sold or given away.  This particular sale was especially hard on me physically. Maybe a little emotionally too but I suspect I was ready to part with many of the treasures I had squirreled away. Course I have "retrieved" a few things too as I gave certain items a chance to come back home. ha ha

Oddly, only two things come to mind that kind of made me a little sad.  The few LP albums I had left and a handful of tiny little knickknack pigs.  Is that strange or what?  Mary ended up taking an awful lot of her stuff back home again but she just keeps putting them in sale after sale until they're finally sold. Luckily, she has a spot to store them at her nephew's house as she awaits the next sale he decides to have.  I have no clue what I made because I didn't really pay that close attention to what I had to start with. I added money from my wallet after I had gone to the bank to get change money. My closest estimate is $200 give or take. I really don't care. Just wanted to downsize.  And as promised, I pretty much gave everything away. Meaning "no charge" or "how about a dollar?"

Having the sale on Sunday was a complete waste of time and energy but now we know.  I loaded up my car this morning with stuff I had left on the driveway all night. I was going to take it to Sequim to Serenity House but I had to go to the bank and it was right across the street from Goodwill so I just drove up their ramp and unloaded.  I also needed my car empty for a second trip and I may take that one down to Sequim. Had hoped to leave it at the historical society building (near me) for their annual yard sale (a huge one!) but alas, they've decided to not have the sale anymore. Just my luck.

Maddie's going to come by later and help me load up my car with the boxes still in the garage. I also posted on two Facebook groups that I belong to. One is to sell stuff and one is to donate. I had six things in the sell site but have only had bites on one item. It was just $5 and my hairdresser is buying it.  The free site has 13 items and several women have asked about certain items. Only problem with the free site is that it's hard for me to keep track of who wants what and then if they don't show up, you have to let the second person on the list know.  It's a hassle and there's one woman who always wants my free stuff.  And doesn't show up when she says she will. She's over an hour late now.

We had one screwball in attendance.  He didn't want to leave and kept trying to barter me down. Wanted my harmonica and I wouldn't come down until later when he put his mouth on it. The bum!  He was kind of mental I think what with the obvious lies he told me about his life.  He put on my halloween mask so I took his picture.
We certainly had a lot of things to sell. And like garage sales are, if you don't get the right people showing up, your stuff won't necessarily move.  I had a lot of interest online about the marbles pictures I posted but of course, I had to sell to whoever came first.  When one lady who had commented came and found they were gone, she acted mad like I was supposed to set them aside for her.  She actually told me:  "I said I was interested in that!"  sigh....

One guy stopped the day before when I was out there setting up and I told him the sale was the following day. He was apologetic and about to leave but I asked him if he was looking for anything in particular.  He wanted my old Cootie game. ha ha  So I sold it to him for a buck.  He also wanted the decorative cereal tins so I let those go, as well. I had questions on them during the sale as they seemed to catch a lot of peoples' attention.

It's always surprising what sells and what doesn't. One guy took my Wheaties box with sports stars on the front, and it wasn't even the whole box. I had cut out the front.

Another guy told me he belongs to the Facebook group that paints rocks for kids with cancer. He asked about mine as I had set out about a dozen or so. I just threw them in a bag for him. Good karma.

My little toilet collection was popular and several of them were taken. I kept some back for myself when I noticed a few leftover the next day. Joyce, Mary, and I ended up buying from each other now and then too. I liked a chair Joyce was selling and she only wanted $3. It's comfortable and I'm hoping once I move that it will fit okay in the small apartment I'll be living in.
I bought a real nice little saucepan from Mary and she took my Dick and Jane book and picture. I sold all the office chairs and book cases but still have some tables to unload and a couple lamps. I'm glad I got rid of all my clothes before the sale and most of my books. That would have only added to our toil.
Below are some of the "leftovers".  Other things along the side of the house are still here too but I did unload several items.  My rooms in the house are definitely looking bare.

This is my former sewing room. Decided to make it my office for now but it's not completely set up yet.  If I end up staying here for months and months to come, I may haul out my sewing machine and use it at the kitchen table. Defintely going to have to rethink what kind of things I'm working on, though. Couldn't unload any of my wall quilt creations and table runners, etc.  But then, I've never been a fan of my finished product half the time and I seriously doubt I would have bought any myself.

One guy was supposed to show up Sunday afternoon to take all my leftovers for his sale as he wanted to earn money for truck tires.  Must have been a liar 'cause he never appeared.  It was disappointing but not entirely surprising.

Maddie, who is home from college for a few days, stopped in for a bit so I had her take our picture and I took one of her. She is so pretty.

Hunter is home from college too but went back to work for the outfit he'll be with when he's done with his schooling. He goes back this month for some specialized classes in diesel repair. I haven't really seen much of him.  Friday night, Wayne, Jenni, and Hunter and me and Mary all went to the
Elwha Casino. Mary and I were beat so only stayed for an hour. I left with $20 more and Wayne, as usual, won over $400. He's always very lucky.

Mary sent me a couple pictures of Poppy playing with a neighbor dog. Apparently Poppy loves her as he whines if he hears her over the fence. And you can tell from these photos, that she's having a good time at play.

They went camping for a night or two and Jake was messing with the campfire. Ended up burning his face but he's okay now. Mary said he said he couldn't wait to go to school to show his friends his wounds. He's such a boy!
And that's about it for now.  Nothing on my calendar for the month of August outside of a doctor appt on the 14th to see what I can do about my damn foot neuropathy.  I've been bothered with it off and on but it was manageable and mainly bothering me when I went to bed. Then these blasted nerve pains started shooting through and that was a real good time. Decided perhaps I'd better get it checked out.  Course I couldn't get into my doctor until September or my PA for three weeks so I'll see this other PA I've been to a couple times.

Here's hoping the hot spell they're predicting isn't as bad as they say it's gonna be.
