Veteran's Day

Gees! It's almost noon already.  I got up at 6 and moved to the recliner for another hour. Sometimes various body parts just hurt to high heaven so you have to get off the mattress and on to something firmer, but you know you're not done sleeping yet.  My dreams are unsettling a lot of the time. I seem to be going through various obstacles from my life -- and ones I thought were out of sight, out of mind. Oh well, nothing you can do about dreamland if you go there on a regular basis and I sure do!

I had made this small tablecloth a few weeks back and I decided it was going to be used as a window drape instead.  My living room windows look out on the wall of apartments on the other side of the courtyard and the sun reflects something fierce, even on cloudy days.  When I sit at my laptop (which is most of the time), the glare was too harsh on my eyes.  Seems like these past years I pretty much need sunglasses when I'm outside, especially driving. Anyhow, I hung the right side facing out so at least it looks pretty if you glance at my apartment windows. I could just close the blinds but I like the weather to be visible.

I was going to go to the post office yesterday when I got back from Marrowstone Island but it was raining and I was exhausted so I went this morning. Climbed up those steep steps huffing and puffing and it wasn't until I turned the door knob and found it locked that I remembered it was a federal holiday. Damn it!  And it's so much work to get to the post office too. I don't know how they get away with not having a handicap entrance.

I ran out to Joanne Lammers place on Hastings Avenue as she had a knitting needle size I needed.  When I got back home, I took some pictures of the decorations as you enter this building.

The activity director was speaking inside the lounge area here as two vets were telling of their military life. I wanted to go in and take pictures but I remembered that the manager decided people needed to sign an okay if they had their picture taken. What a bunch of baloney!  Most of them enjoy having their photo taken and posted.

I've got this one pair of shoes where the laces will not stay tied. I suppose I could try to tie a double knot but once I'm down there, I only want to get up again! Fast.  haha   Anyhow, I saw a little baggy of  shoestrings in the laundry room, which is where you put stuff you're giving away, so I brought it home to see if any would work for me better than what I'm using.  Sorry my blog is full of boring stuff but you gotta go with what you got.

I finished up my santa rocks yesterday and will set them aside for Xmas gifts. I plan on setting a few on the little shelf outside our doors for certain residents that I've gotten to know.
I bought three small dishtowels at the Dollar Tree in Sequim day before yesterday. Catie requested some for Christmas and wanted them sewn in such a way that they'd stay on the oven door. I finally figured out a simple solution. Put velcro on each side about 5" up and it works pretty well.

I also bought this plastic jar at the Dollar Tree and decided it would make a good present for Jake. I put this wrestler action figure inside and then dumped in all my loose coins. You can just see one of his hands sticking up.
While scrolling through my old photos, I found this one from May of 2019 when my cousin, Linda, came up from Kentucky to see the Rhody Parade one last time and visit her brother in Vancouver. He died in June of 2020.  Pictured here are two of my daughters, Jenni and Sue.
Yesterday I drove out to Fort Flagler to have lunch with my friend, Ann Robson, who was parked at the RV area with her boyfriend, Garry.  It was a stormy day but I like being at the beach during bad weather.  I took the wrong turn, of course, to get down to the beach. I hadn't been out there since my half sister and her husband came up from N.C. to meet me and my siblings in 2017.

Uh oh....this can't be a good sign.  I just called the clinic where I used to go in P.A. as I wanted to find the date I last saw a certain surgeon there. Anyhow, your name and birthdate wasn't enough for this clown so he wanted my address that they would have on record.  Guess who could not think of it!  That kind of scares me but then I am 77.  I think I'm going to be saying those words a lot from now on.
I still can't think of it. I finally got 15th Street and as I type these words, a picture comes of mind of my front door with 1822 on it.  But do you think I could think of my full address. Nope. It was gone, gone, gone.  He said: can you give me your phone number if that would be easier for you. Oh lord!  He realizes I'm losing it. haha    After we established that I was who I said I was, I asked him...what is my address you have?  And he named Hancock Street.  Oh....I didn't know you had my very latest address.

I went to Walmart yesterday and bought underpants.  Spent quite a while looking them over as underpants can't be bought in a rush. I finally got them home, opened them up (10 to a package so you can't even look at them in the store) and they looked okay so I ran them through the washer.  When I was putting them away, they kind of looked like they had shrunk. Still looked big, though, (hee hee) so I figured I'd be okay.  Put on a pair this morning and the damn things hurt!  So it was off to the laptop where I signed on to Amazon and got the next size up.  I'll keep the 10 pair anyhow because I do intend to work on losing weight. At the same time, I have to accept the fact, I'll probably be dead before I fit into the size of pants I wish I could wear.

Well, time to fix a small lunch. I've got two salads set aside but I ordered the alternate for dinner tonight and chose a large salad so I don't know if I want salad for two meals. Not that it wouldn't be healthy. I'll think about it. Meanwhile, here's a picture of my son-in-law, Andy, when he was in the Air Force. Happy Veterans Day!
