What did you want to be when you grew up?
Lorraine: I wanted to be a musician.
John: I wanted to be old. Think I wanted to be a farmer.
Grow anything I could make grow.
Marcella: I wanted to be an actress.
Arlie: A forest ranger.
Denny: Never thought about growing up that much. Only
thought in terms of driving cars.
Joyce: Everybody wanted to be a nurse. When the Mickey
Mouse Club came on tv, everybody was going to be an airline stewardess. I
wanted to be a newspaper reporter after watching Lois Lane on Superman.
Dale: I wanted to be an artist.
Jimmy: I wanted to be free and travel by motorcycle.
Remember Along Came Bronson? I just knew I didn’t want to live in Port
Townsend. I wanted to start a new life somewhere else.
Sue S: I wanted to be a window dresser, a CPA, or a 5th grade teacher.
Lill: A veterinarian, then a seamstress when I became
interested in quilts. As a high school student, I wanted to be an artist. Wanted
to bicycle across the U.S. (which I accomplished). Decided that becoming a
dental assistant was the fastest way to gain independence. I also wanted to
travel and take classes.
Marlee: I remember telling my mom I was going to be rich so
I could get her a maid to clean her house. I don’t remember having any big life
plans. I knew I wanted to be married and have three children three years apart.
Cindy: I always wanted to be a hairdresser but Grandma
Velna told me I shouldn’t because I’d have to deal with dirty hair and lice. My
mom suggested dental assisting to me when I was 14. I latched onto that and
became one.
Bill: Always thought I wanted to be a doctor.
Sue W: I wanted to own a garden nursery.
Mary: A nurse and a psychologist.
Joe: I wanted to be in the navy. Ended up in the army,
though.
Tiffany: I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher.
