And the heat begins

I decided to do my kitchen chores first today.  And once I started, I found one thing after another to attend to.  I knew I wanted to make a small potato salad so I pulled the potatoes out of  the pantry and discovered some fruit flies having a good time with one potato that had gone bad. I filled up the sink with water to wash all the potatoes and toss the bad one.   Half of it was still good so I grated that and made a small fried potato patty while I boiled two other potatoes with two eggs for the salad. I do love fried potatoes but unfortunately, I used too much salt so they're not exactly my best work today. I fried a small sausage patty to go with the potato and made a piece of toast.

I put water on to boil for a cup of tea and decided to make a pitcher of iced tea while I was at it. Then I decided since I was heating up the apartment with all this water boiling, I might as well make some jello. Needed to use up a banana that was going bad.  I found a box of graham crackers in the pantry and a little bit of powdered sugar and a fourth cup of choc. chips so I made up a small bowl of frosting to make cracker cookies for later.

I put my new box fan that I got at a yard sale in my bedroom window (facing out) and I plugged in a smaller table fan that I use in here at night if I get too hot. I've also got that handy little fan that plugs into my laptop so I can blow cold air on me while at the keyboard.  It's all about comfort. haha

I filled up my dishpan with soapy water to soak some of the silverware and dishes before I start washing. Noticed the little blue plastic containers I keep knives, forks, and spoons in was full of crumbs so I emptied out the silverware so I could give them a good rinse.  Then I went hunting for the two small handheld fans I have that you can wear around your neck. Handy for when you're out and about. Realized I had NO AA batteries at all so that means I'll probably have to hit Safeway today or tomorrow.  Need to go to the bank too so I can pick up a roll of quarters to give my sister for her birthday on Saturday.

One of my projects today is to give my latest batch of painted rocks a coat of sealer so they're shiny and okay to leave outside.  I also have to make one quilt square. I'm trying to make one a day using  these six fat quarters a friend gifted me. I made four using the first three designs and today I'll tackle the other three. They're more colorful. One has ice cream cones and one has frogs.

I used this technique I saw on Youtube to "pour paint" five of the rocks and I tried this other routine where you put drops of paint on a piece of saran wrap, place the rock (I painted it white first) and wrap the plastic wrap around it, unwrap and lift off the rock. They didn't turn out as cute as the ones I saw online but it was kind of fun to monkey around with. I'm sure these will be much cooler once they get the sealer applied.

Here's the four quilt squares I made from the first 3 pieces of fat quarters I was given. I tried to be super careful measuring, cutting, and sewing but a couple of them still didn't turn out perfect.  Oh well, I'll survive.

Started watching 'Alone" on Hulu this week. I'd seen the first season already but found it so interesting, I watched it again. Not sure why I enjoy watching people survive in the woods but I do.  I'm also watching this show on Apple TV (only $5 a month) called 'Trying'.  It is hilarious!  I'm laughing out loud and I never do that.  Takes place in London and it's about this couple who are trying to get pregnant but can't so they decide to adopt.  My favorite line last night was when the social worker was
inspecting the couple's apartment and told them if they take this boy and girl who are siblings and don't want to be separated that they'll have to find another place to live because each kid needs their own bedroom.  The father-in-law was there and he barked:  That's ridiculous! Look how many bedrooms the queen has and all her kids are dullards and perverts!
haha  That's the kind of thing that amuses me.

Well, I think I'll go finish washing up the little bit of dishes left to do so I can sit and play at my hobbies. Still have to do the crossword and wordle online and play a couple games of solitaire too. It relaxes me.

Have a good day and try to stay cool.

  1. Love the TV show Alone, too. I can not quite figure out why. Every time I watch it, I say, If I had a 10 pound bag of lentils, some art supplies, a journal and knitting; I'd survive just fine. HAHA! Lois
