Saturday Morning

Looks like it's gonna be a nice summer day.  I did my errands early because that's what I do. I kind of enjoy riding through downtown before all the tourists and such take over. Stopped at Penny Saver to get my Hit 5 ticket for the next ten days and went to the Farmer's Market up on Lawrence & Tyler. I was hoping I could get a close parking spot as I was going to try and shop with just my walking stick. I only wanted a couple of items and thankfully, I found a spot super close. Got my eggs, some strawberries, some cherry tomatoes and a big ole cucumber. Shared some with my neighbor.

I've got all the fans running and am thinking I'm probably going to have to change to shorts before the day gets over. I fried up a small potato for fried potatoes for breakfast and gave half to my neighbor. She made cookies yesterday and gave me a plateful. I baked a pie yesterday (had some apples that were given to me) and I took a piece to five neighbors so I wouldn't  be tempted to eat the whole thing. And yes, I could easily eat a whole pie.  Oink!

Went to the fair yesterday morning. Very few people and a whole lot less exhibits. I hope things pick up next year. I'd really hate to see the county fair go by the wayside. I got a couple blues and one red on the painted rocks I entered. And they weren't even my good ones. Just a few I had rolling around in the back seat.  I got one blue on a cross stitch picture and 3 or 4 reds.  I don't think I got any blues on anything I sewed but no shock there as I'm my best critic and I know good sewing and poor sewing.  I keep trying, though.  My rinky dink quilts don't even compare with the quilts of beauty shown at the fair. I think my quilt was even embarrassed to be hanging up there. haha

My sister-in-law, Lill, got one blue (I think) and reds.  Again, I don't understand the judging because I was sure all her entries were blue ribbon material. She's really good at sewing. My sister, Janie, put in her sewn bags and one backpack she made. She got one red and all the rest blue. I was so happy for her. She needed that. And besides, her bags are terrific. I wish she could find a market to sell them but she's gotten so discouraged at not being able to find buyers that now she's moved on to making back packs for a while.

My favorite display was the huge raffle that Fair Board was having. 65 really good prizes at a buck a piece. Nice variety to suit all tastes. I'm really hoping to win something -- anything!  You put your name in whichever can represented that particular prize.  Jenni bought me ten tickets, bless her heart.

Unfortunately, I screwed up when I dressed to go to the fair and the insoles and pads I put (incorrectly) in my shoes gave me a lot of grief the minute I started walking around. After two hours, I was almost crippled up. Made a quick run to Safeway as Jenni was with me and hurried on home. Put ice on my feet and more comfortable footwear.  I thought for sure I'd be able to spend more time out there since I had taken my walker but it wasn't meant to be. Maybe next year. I did sit down and order me a better pair of shoes yesterday and some decent insole support thingies too. Hope and pray they fit but Prime will allow me to send back and try again if not.  Also picked up a bottle of Super MultiVit B complex pills.  Sure is getting harder and harder to stay alive.

A friend brought me a handful of Rhody Run pins and other buttons so I'm making a new board to put them on as my other board is too full.  Only thing I could find was this ole poster I got at some fair years ago. At least I think it was a fair. Maybe the Puyallup?  Or not. I forget. I was still married then so it's been a while. I'm also going to stick some on my three baseball hats. Yeah, I'm big on being stylish.

Here's the pictures I took at the fair. Not too many this year.  I'm going to a memorial next Saturday so I should get some good people pictures then.

Jenni and Barbara Shaw in the arts building
me and Barb in the agriculture building
Lill and Dana in the rock club building
Lill, Dana, and Jenni visiting on the fairway
Marianne Walters at the raffle booth.
Rita Hubbard in the fair office

my six rocks are in the back of this display
my counted cross stitch pictures. Only the Xmas tree got a blue
One of three quilts that Lill put in. I was surprised it didn't get a blue
A Xmas quilt of Lill's that also only got a red.  Go figure.

I really loved this dog quilt. It did get a blue. One of Lill's (the blue one on the left on table) also got a red but should have gotten blue (in my opinion)

two of Janie's bags on top. One red, one blue
the bull people will probably ride today
Not sure (again) why this pretty exhibit didn't get a blue. Painted seashells. Very colorful

Today I plan on the usual -- watch golf, work my jigsaw puzzle, play solitaire online (horrible addiction I have now), and read.  I picked up three or four more books down in the library. Even if I don't get to them all or finish them, I still like having them in the apartment.

And that's about it for my Saturday so far.
