I know this sounds nuts but I've thought for some time now that this particular neighborhood is a hangout for crows. They're noisy and always doing something or another. And yes, I know crows are just crows and that's what they do. I've been bird watching for years and get a lot of enjoyment out of it. When you sit in your recliner and your view is the roof across the courtyard and the tree tops, you're naturally going to be observing birds. Tonight I had to grab my camera because I couldn't believe my eyes.
The roof has these vents and roof pipes or something all over up there and the crows love sitting on them and picking at the base of them. Must be bugs to their liking. Which is no big deal but they play a great deal and hop from one pipe to another and sometimes look like they're playing tag. Tonight they really caught my attention when they took turns sliding down one particular vent that is wider than the rest. And yes, I mean sliding like a kid going down a slide at the park. They took turns doing it over and over. Fascinating to watch.
They wake me up every morning at 5 a.m. (which I don't find amusing) and then the seagulls get in the act too. There is a small swamp next door just off Avamere's parking lot and I assume all kinds of water fowl hang out there. I've been interested in crow activity for some time and I know there's a lot of books out there on their behavior. My camera didn't do the scene justice but here's some I took.
This is an actual shot of one of them taking his turn sliding down.
