OK. Let's see how this goes.....

Just tested if I can be on my blog and switch over to my gmail account without having to sign out first. It works!  So glad.  Now I'll have to work on setting up a new template, adding photos, etc.  All in good time.

January hasn't started out on that great of a note.  I "think" getting on my exercise bike rearranged something in my spine/tailbone area.  I could be full of baloney but I could be right too.  At any rate, I began suffering with sciatica the next day.  Found I couldn't sit  in the car or a chair (recliner was okay) without a donut cushion.  Am using a child's blowup swim ring until my real sciatica cushion arrives. Hopefully today.  I was moving the swim ring from chair to chair depending on what activities I was involved in.  The office chair at the kitchen table has a smaller seat and no arms.  Like the fool I can be, I wasn't paying attention when I sat down and managed to let the chair move from under me before I was seated.  Stupid.  I knew better!  Hit the floor with a boom, hit my head on the wall, and sat there for a minute recalling the outside fall I took a couple years back that ended up with me requiring a knee and shoulder replacement.  Oh dear!

I was determined to get up and I managed. Just barely.  Didn't cry but I thought about it. The next day I was a little sore but mainly from the sciatica which continued to cause me grief.  The day after that -- uh oh, now it's letting me know there's pain to be dealt with.  I couldn't stand on my right leg and had to use my cane and walker to wobble from room to room.  I knew I must have bruised some bones 'cause I had fallen hard and I know bruises can take their sweet time to heal.  Figured I was in for a rough week.

I am very thankful the recliner is my place of comfort.  And my bed.  I can still drive (sitting on the cushion) but I haven't tested whether or not I can get from my car to the grocery store aisles.  I probably could but I think I'll wait until tomorrow when I get done with my doctor appt.  I had made it weeks ago (for another ailment) and I was mighty happy it was happening soon after this fall.

Naturally, (cause it's what I do) I wondered yesterday if I had broken my hip. I googled to see if you can still walk on a broken hip (you can) so that didn't do a heck of a lot for my state of mind.  I really need to lighten up more when my body breaks down.  It's only going to do it more and more as I age.

Well, I suppose I've made you sit long enough through my aches and pains of the day. Be prepared. Sometimes my blog is my only outlet to discuss what is hurting.  I'll try not to make it a habit... but you have been warned.  ha ha   I know you're supposed to say "LOL" but I just can't break my "ha ha" habit so I'll stick with it.

I came across an ad for a ROKU stick with $10 off and free shipping so I sent for it a few minutes ago.  Am looking forward to being able to access my "free channels" in every room of the house.  I bought a small tv for the sewing room which I use now and again if the audio books aren't interesting.  Also have a larger tv in my bedroom although I seldom watch tv in bed.  Usually just have it on in the morning as I get dressed or if I go to bed early because I'm not feeling that great.

The Smart TV that Mary and Andy gave me for Christmas has been an absolute delight.  It took me a while to discover all the channels I was able to get without a cable subscription.  I do have cable but only pay for the lowest basic level which gives you next to no choices.  Even that costs $30 a month. Does anyone know....?   If I cancel my tv cable, will I still be able to get my free channels through my Smart TV?  I'm too afraid to cancel and find out 'cause then I'd have to pay more to get it hooked up again.  I do need my cable for internet but would dearly love to cancel the tv part of it IF I don't really need it.

I subscribe to Netflix streaming and Amazon Prime and I pretty much watch them exclusively at night.   During the day, I use the Roku to tune into  favorite music or radio stations.  I seldom, if ever, go to the movies anymore but I'm always tempted everytime the award shows come on and I feel I just HAVE to see that movie.  I may look into what Red Box is offering lately as I used to buy rent from there every now and again but haven't in a long time -- thanks to Netflix.

Some movies that come to mind that I've recently seen on Amazon include Masquerade with Rob Lowe, The Extra Ordinary Tale of William Buckley, and Little Accidents.  Buckley was a documentary and especially interesting.

My latest audio book (all from the library) is John Grisham's Sycamore Row.  Been working on a Sunbonnet Sue Days of the Week quilt wall hanging. Just about done except for attaching the lining and backing and binding.  I didn't follow the pattern material choices exactly because I didn't want to buy more material when I had a lot of odds and ends on hand.  Plus, this was my practice piece sorta, to learn as I went along about what to do and what not to do.  It's been fun. Here's how my one in progress looks so far and how the book pictured theirs.

Our local library has a gift shop in their lobby where they sell books, audio books, movies, CDs, and other things at really good prices. I picked up this Potluck Suppers Cookbook the other day and am absolutely delighted with it.  I'm thinking maybe I'll try to make every single recipe it in.  Like that movie Julia and me.  I especially like that the ingredients are simple ones and not generally things you have to go invest in.  Plus the directions are quick and easy. Just my kind of cookbook.  And it only cost me $2.  I also love this Mug Cake Cookbook I got from Jenni for Christmas.  I can pretty much make cake in the microwave in 2 minutes any day of the week.  And that's a good thing!

The twins are done with driving school now except for a few more actual driving outings.  They can't get their license until they're 16 (this summer) but I pretty much let Hunter drive my car all the time now when I have to take them on errands. Maddie is a little bit more timid but she'll get there, I'm sure.

The book I'm reading right now is 'What it used to be like' by Maryann Burk Carver, first wife of Raymond Carver, a local well known author.  Interesting to read her stories about her teen life, early marriage, and the birth of her kids. I was able to identify with her young married tales very well.

It's been raining steadily but that's fine with me as I don't intend on leaving the house all day.  Tomorrow will be to the doctor and grocery store and then it's back home for the weekend. Yeah, a nice quiet time planned.

Think I'll play around with this blog later and see if I can't find a template I like.
