Why Am I up this early

I tossed and turned from 3 to 5 a.m. and then decided I might as well get up.  There's always that recliner to nap in later. This seems to be my schedule these days. Never can tell if I'm going to be tired or awake or full of energy or dragging.  Such is life.  Ho Hum...

Booted  up the computer and saw it wanted to run updates so I knew I wouldn't be able to get online for a while.  Dropped off to sleep last night rearranging my sewing room in my head. Thought I'd get a head start on cleaning it out today.  I can't seem to find an arrangement that suits me.  I suppose it's my OCD 'cause I've been a rearranger of furniture my entire life.  Anyhow, I spent hours sewing yesterday and realized I wasn't feeling all that great when I finally wrapped things up.  Looked around at the mess and knew I had to do something about making the room more user friendly.

I even watched a video on Youtube about utilizing sewing areas better but it wasn't any help.  Her room looked like she never sewed in it. Even had the iron hung on the wall.  Who does that if they're busy sewing. NO ONE!  As I looked over the placing of where I had my supplies, ironing board, machine, side tables, etc.  I knew I had to think of something better.

I started by taking one of my tables to the kitchen and collecting my two boom boxes, cases of
CDs, and assortment of tapes.  Would really like to get rid of my tapes but I need to find a solution to getting some of that REALLY GOOD MUSIC onto my computer. I have a gadget but it isn't that user friendly and I need to search around and see what else I can do.  It's on my 'to-do' list.
Both of the boom boxes are old and often "act up" when I'm trying to play CDs and/or cassettes. Right now I have Maddie's player so I can listen to my audio books while I'm sewing.  I've got a ton of tunes in that little corner of my kitchen and I have to remember that I can use my DVD player hooked to the television if I want to play my CDs.  Or I can use my computer.  Neither of those are always handy, however.

My biggest problem in the sewing room is how to store the odds and ends of material I can't throw away.  I've got a couple of large bins for now and I've got to figure out how to store various sizes and shapes so I know what is where when I want it.  The video I watched of the woman teaching space use had dozens of material (looked like a lot of fat squares) all folded up tight in cubby holes.  Give me a break!  That's all very well and pretty but that's not SEWING THEM!

I'm not willing to spend a lot of money on shelving and such but I do intend to hit the Dollar Store today to see what I can find that might work for individual bins and baskets, etc.  I'm also going to have to shop Amazon and find another chair mat.  The one I'm using is so cracked and rickety that the wheels on the chair are constantly getting stuck in them after giving off a loud crack!  A nuisance. Being able to use a chair on wheels has made all the difference on the time and comfort I have in that room.  My daughter bought me a new chair mat for this room and I still marvel at how nice it is to have a mat that doesn't grab my chair.  ha ha

And that is my project for today.  I may browse Bay Variety and Joanne Fabrics too just to see what they have that might catch my fancy.  I may even hit that other fabric store we have in this town. Keep forgetting it's there. Mainly because it usually costs me money whenever I walk through the door.

Well, off to Amazon Prime I go....

Two hours later:  My floor mat is ordered and should be here on Saturday. I worked hard on the sewing room and am really bushed.  Happy with the outcome, though, and I may not need any baskets or whatever at the Dollar Tree.

Think I'll lay off sewing today and work on my jigsaw puzzle, read, and study my quilt books.
Here's my new play area ....
the view from my window isn't anything to brag about but it does provide good light. I wanted my tape/cd player next to me as I was always having to get up and go find the next disk. Have found that having the ironing board next to my machine also works much better.
This is one area of storage behind the door. I can fix those cubby holes up neater a little later today. That barrel holds batting and other odds and ends.
This is the other corner where I'll keep 3 or 4 bins with various pieces of material to grab from.
All in all, I think I like this arrangement much better as it opened up the room more.
