A Social Outing

My social calendar these days is pretty much down to two outings.  The alumni cocktail hour at the Elks in June and the mill retirement luncheon at Roadhouse 20 in March.  Funny how quickly my life took a quiet seclusion.  Well, I do hit the casino every few weeks for a lunch with friends and if I'm feeling especially brave I'll travel across the water to see the grandson, but going there requires a companion as I'm still not comfortable with driving alone to the city.  And I never will be. I know that much about myself and I've accepted it.

There were 101 people at the lunch yesterday. Always interesting (and  a little sad) to see how we're all aging and how many are no longer in attendance.  I also noticed how many folks didn't stand around to talk and needed to sit right away.  Me included.  I walked around and took pictures but did feel the need to take a load off.  And I wasn't quite as strong on my feet as I used to be. Even had to watch myself as I maneuvered around people or in tight areas.  Old age just kind of creeps up on you when you're not looking.

I posted all my photos on my Facebook page.  Ended up having to delete 24 of them because they were too blurry.  I've got to work a little harder at knowing exactly how my camera operates. Especially in darker settings. I'm heading down to Walgreen's to pick up reprints this morning so the luncheon committee can mail out complimentary photos to everyone I caught on film.

The lunch was delicious. I brought home a piece of my chicken and had it for dinner last night.  I fell into bed exhausted but that seems to be par for the course these days whenever I decide to travel out of town. Didn't get a nap and I was dragging big time.  And then I woke up this a.m. with a calf cramp.  Drank some pickle juice and walked around the house to try and work it out. Gotta pay attention to always taking a magnesium pill and eating half a banana daily.

Grass is pretty wet so it must have rained heavily last night. Sky is blue now, though, and the sun is out. Think I'll grab my walking sticks and see if I can't concentrate a little harder on getting a daily walk in.  I've got a few more daffodils blooming now and finally noticed a bird has found the seed out front.

Stopped by my sister's to drop off a couple bags of material stuffing and much to my surprise, she gifted me with a bag of material.  Looked it over last night and now I'm excited to get busy in the sewing room again.  Lots of good cotton material I can use. She also stuck a biography of Merle Haggard in the bottom. Oh boy!

I started to watch Dancing with the Stars last night but just couldn't seem to get in the mood for it. Switched over to movie on Amazon with Sam Elliott and Blythe Danner.  A love story for seniors.  Fluff mostly but it's always nice to gaze at Sammy.

Well, I better get up and get moving. Have to unload the dishwasher and the kitchen floor could probably use a quick mop. Both chores aren't on my favorite list either!  Have a couple of letters to write and am determined to get some more photos sorted on my hard drive.
