Got a late start leaving Port Angeles as Maddie had a track meet after school. Jenni's foot was hurting so much, she decided to stay home on the couch. Good idea! Maddie and left about 6:30 and I hoped and prayed we get there before dark. Nope. Wasn't gonna happen. Pulled into Wendy's to get a burger for the road but we were about 11th in line at the drive-thru and I wasn't in the mood to waste my driving in the daylight time. Stopped again at the Longhouse in Blyn. Filled up the gas tank and picked up a couple of sandwiches. Wasn't impressed but oh well...
Thankfully, we didn't really have any traffic or construction snarls but it was dark by the time I paid the $6 toll at the Narrows Bridge. I was tense but I knew there was no turning back and I plowed on ahead. Maddie turned her map app on on her cell so we got directions all the way. Only problem is, as soon as Suri (or whatever the hell her name is) said something about what lane to get in and what sign to look for, I'd listen carefully and then completely forget what she said. Maddie had to repeat more than once. I'm blaming it on the fact I was too tense, too old, and had to go pee ever since the Hood Canal Bridge. Ha!
Anyhow, we pulled into Mary's at 9:45 or thereabouts. I do not like traveling at night but I guess I should be thankful it wasn't raining. I went straight to bed. Got up at 7 when I heard Jake talking. He grinned at me as he came down the stairs and said "Gammy!" Ahhhh, does the heart good.
Had a bagel with coffee for breakfast, baked up some cupcakes, took a shower, and we headed out.
Over to Coulon Park. Lots of kids there today. Jake was riding his no pedal bike as Maddie ran along side. Some kid about 2 or 3 comes over and informs Jake "No bike riding in here!" Jake scowls at him and pushes his bike further down the sidewalk.
We fed the ducks, walked around, took pictures, ordered fish and chips at Ivars (huge line by the time we left), drove through Starbucks on the way home, and then I frosted the cupcakes so we could all eat one. Jake is napping now and Maddie is sunbathing. Mary has to take her car in to get a tire repaired. Catie is coming over later this evening.
Mary and Andy leave at 4 a.m. and come back Monday at 3 pm so after I go to bed tonight, I won't see them again as Maddie and I plan on driving home Monday morning after the nanny arrives.
Here's some shots I took today.
