Catching up

Looks like I let a whole week go by again before getting back to this blog.  I'll post a really long one today as I have pictures and stories of my weekend.  Won't post all the alumni photos I took but I did put them on my other blog --- http://alumniofpths.blogspot.com   so you can see them there.  I didn't ID all the people because it would take me forever to try and remember names.  Even those that I know.  Your memory gets fuzzy as your age number goes up.  Maybe when I'm feeling especially awake and sharp, I'll go back and attempt to type the names.

Most of the following pictures were already posted on Facebook but I'll post here for those of you who don't like going to that website.  I know a lot of people avoid it but I'm not one of them. The pictures people share are well worth the browsing time to scroll down and find stuff of interest.  I may be "all over the place" as I refer back and forth to my pictures and I'm probably going to bore the hell out of you with my before and after shots but I love before and after photographs and like to have them handy where I can go back and look again.

I woke up at 3 a.m. today (just to pee) but at 3:45, I realized that I wasn't going to drop off easily so I got up, made some cocoa, toasted a bagel, and went online to read the Leader.  Interesting graduation pictures and I intend to look over the PTHS website on Facebook too so I can see more. Also, Jan Boutilier's page as she's the photographer and does a super job.  Am hoping the class reunion groups she took on Saturday will appear in next week's paper.

I left P.A. around 9:30 a.m. on Friday.  Had a few stops to make in Hadlock before heading into P.T. to pick up Mary Gaboury at her nephew's house.

First stop was my brother and sister-in-law's place on Four Corners Road. I had five old t-shirts to drop off so she can make me a quilt out of them when she has time. Redskin shirts mostly but had 'An Officer and a Gentleman' shirt that doesn't fit anymore and I really wanted to keep it.  From there I went to Linda Pedersen's to drop off a couple items and to Shari Glessings to pick up a couple of books and some material my daughter, Mary, sent over.  I was going to go by my sisters but she was out and about so before heading in to pick up Mary, I drove back over to Barbara Shaw's place to use her bathroom.  I know.  Could this be any more boring?  ha ha

I did take one picture on Irondale Road.
Mary and I went to lunch at Don's Pharmacy counter. (love their burgers)  Then I just drove around taking pictures here and there as the mood hit.  Dave and Mary usually stay at her nephew's house on 9th Street when they come to town but Friday night, we had a room at Harborside Inn so we could attend a house party at Dave Marriott's and be in town the next day for alumni at the Elks.
Dave & Mary

Here's a few of the pictures I took as we drove around.
This was an actual fence around a house uptown (near Chetzemoka Park area)
                                                   Another view of the fence
Since it was alumni weekend, we felt we needed to stand on the high school steps
This bike shop is across the street from Del's Grocery where the tennis courts used to be
Caught these deer making themselves at home in somebody's yard on McPherson

This was Doris LaChance's house on Jackman. The two below is a shed or garage type building behind the house with unusual decorations

Stopped by to see Clarence Lammers and Eddie Forcier showed off his chicken house and turkey house.  He also had newborn kittens in the basement and a very large dog.
Here he is posing with his son, Bradley and dog Silva

The Gael Stuart Bldg near the high school
Had to get a picture sitting in the swing

This ship was going by North Beach as we were there. Love North Beach

This view of Laurel Grove Cemetery was taken from the high school parking lot
                                                            North Beach of course
This building was once the Catholic Church. It sits a block down from the high school
This house on Blaine was once the Lutheran Church
Took this shot of the post office from Don's Pharmacy door
Marv Shields memorial outside the Legion Hall
You never saw signs like this on the high school wall when I went to school. There were several large Redhawk signs but I wasn't interested in taking a picture of them!
Loved this sign at Safeway parking lot. I went in and bought 2 cans of pumpkin. They had lots of canned pumpkin in two brands. You can't find it anywhere in P.A., though. They told me it was "seasonal".  Baloney!
Mary posed with some venders at the Legion. Steampunk Bazaar was going on. I know. I've never heard of it either.
Had to go by my old house on Kuhn and take a picture. This sign didn't exist when I lived there.
Dropped by Cathi White Deits' house on Saturday to visit before alumni. She had married the week before.
Stopped in at Kai Tai to see Teresa Arey who is recovering from hip surgery.
Ran into Barbara Shaw at the plaza.

Took a pic of the old clinic (just because)
Grandpa's old barn near the swamp is almost overgrown with weeds.
This is 49th St near Carol Rustad's house. I learned to ride a bicycle here.
                                           Catholic Church is looking nice
This old house on 24th & Discovery used to be Herb's Grocery in the 1950s
Additions to the hospital are underway on Sheridan Avenue

This store used to be a real hub of activity. It'll always be Del's Grocery to me
This old shed on 21st & Landes is trying to fall down

Noisy seagulls as seen and heard from Chetzemoka Park

Friday party at Dave & Helen's house. Our 55th reunion. Those attending included Lois Edney, Sharon Sofie, Ellen Jenner, me, Mary, Dave, Liz O'Brien, Walter Moa, Karen Jovag

Those at the Elks included Linda Pedersen,Ruth Kvinsland, Dave, Liz, Herb Evanson, Mary, Karen Jovag, Lois, and me.  Sharon Sofie and Dave Worley arrived later.
And this was the whole group Friday night at Dave's

This was a terrible accident in Port Orchard on Friday. Lonnie Kvinsland was injured and his cousin was killed.  A big shock for everyone.
This dog showed up on my porch yesterday so I gave him a piece of baloney. Thankfully, he didn't stick around. Thought he was kind of a funny looking dog.

Jenni surprised me with this cute planter she made out of one of Hunter's old Tonka trucks.

Mary and I wondered if our motel room was about where nails and screws were sold back in our childhood days when her cousins had the Deleo Bros business on the same site.  I dug out some old photos and I think we may have been close.

And here's some before and after pictures of other houses in my life.
The Kuhn St. house in the 40's or 50's I think
This picture was taken in the late 50's or early 60's
This is the house in 1988
Can't even hardly see it in the 2016 photo. The owner drove up as I was sitting in my car looking at it and I got out to talk to her. Was hoping she'd let me see the inside but she wasn't all that interested in my history of the place.  Said "it's not much of a house."  Ha!  I told her it was to me and if I ever won the lotto, I planned on buying it.  She looked at me like I was a fruitcake.
My dad and Jim in 1938 or 39 on the side of the house
How the side of the house looks now.  Big old two story sits in grandpa's garden

Dad added on a bedroom to the back of the house in the mid 60's when he was going to marry
That, of course, changed with new owners
This is his house on Cosgrove near the old boy scout cabin. It was moved across town near Hastings Avenue and the new owners built their house on the site.
Can't even hardly see the house with the trees and shrubbery in front
This is the Cosgrove house as it sits near Hastings. Doesn't even look close to the original. Amazing.

And last but not least...two pictures of Hunter using a lawn mower. Time goes by so quickly.
