My dad's dad was Lewis Gene. His dad was Lewis Marion. His dad was Zadock, and Zadock's dad was Zachariah and his mother was Edith Wilkerson.
When Zadock was born, John Adams was
President and when he died Abe Lincoln was President when he died. Having details like this helps me keep track of them better and understand what era I'm writing on.
Zadock’s siblings were Prudence, William, Sarah, Presley Isham,
& Lusanna
Zadock married twice. His ten kids with Sarah Jones included Emma, twins Hezekiah & Martha, Henry, Joseph, Elisha,
Bolin, twins Nancy & Zachariah, Benjamin
When poor old Sarah died (probably from being pregnant all the time), he married Elizabeth Bolt.
She gave him six more kids, plus she brought her son George to the marriage. George's dad wouldn't marry Elizabeth so she left town with her brother and moved to Illinois where she hooked up with Zadock who had a houseful of kids and needed a wife.
His second round of children with Elizabeth included Lewis Marion, Mariah, James, John, Harriet, Charles, and George W. Bolt (stepson to Zadock)
When Lewis Marion (my great grandfather) was born, John Tyler was President and when he
died William Howard Taft was in office. Lewis hooked up with Jane Downs who had traveled to Ramsey, IL from Delaware. Her folks had both died and I think she was with relatives. Still working on that little story.
Lewis Marion and Jane Downs had about a dozen kids. Two or three died young. The youngest of these kids was my grandpa, Lewis Gene. At least I think he was the youngest. My "brick wall" so to speak is a boy named Charlie who I believe was born after my grandpa but I haven't been able to track a single thing down on him. Have a picture and some clues. Kind of wonder sometimes if he was adopted or changed his name. But that's another story.
I'm going to work on each of the relatives from Zadock to the present. Sometimes I can get easily distracted if I wander off in some direction to look up one of Zadock's brothers or sisters. I've got to try and stay on course or I'll never finish.
Jenni just called and offered me a stuffed green pepper for supper. Yum! I like her recipe much better than mine and I love that I don't have to cook tonight. Tomorrow I'll have leftover pork roast from last night.
A couple days ago I decided to get energetic and mop the kitchen. Filled up the bucket with bleach water and forgot I had some "like new" red sweat pants on. Damn it! Now I have orange spots all over my legs. I ruin more things with bleach. I've pulled this little stunt before so you'd think I'd have a clue.
Last night I spent an hour and a half or so watching this Netflix movie called Meek's Cutoff. I need to pay attention when it only gets 1-1/2 stars! Oh man, I was mad. The filming was dark half the time and you couldn't see a thing but the story line made me hang in there to see what happened. What happened was the stupid director got tired and just ended the movie leaving you hanging. I couldn't believe I wasted my evening on that. Think I'll look up the director and if he's still alive, I'll send him a piece of my mind. Ha Ha
After that I tuned in a Harrison Ford movie. Discovered after a bit that I'd seen it but I was too lazy to try and find something else by that time. Should have turned off the set and read a book --- or gone to bed. That would have been the sensible thing to do. I think I woke up at midnight or so with one horrible low backache. Backaches don't usually wake me up but this one did. Makes me wonder just what exactly is going on back there. I took three ibuprofens and that seemed to do the trick as I didn't wake up again until 7:30 this morning.
Had some yogurt and an English muffin for breakfast and headed outside to water the pots that Sue had fixed up for me.
Mailman brought me the cable bill this morning and that gave me a headache as I see they've raised their prices again. I ranted on Facebook about it just to get it off my chest. I'm thinking of buying a modem so I can at least get rid of the $7 rental charge they make me pay each month. I have to make sure, though, that I buy the right thing and that somebody will help me connect it.
Had a woman call me this afternoon saying she saw an ad in her high school newsletter (or something on line?) about a 1964 annual I might have available. Well, I had a 1964 yearbook but I must have given it to someone in that class who wanted it. Anyhow, as we got to talking, I had her spell her name as it didn't sound familiar. I asked her if she was even in that yearbook because I was looking right at it and couldn't find her picture. She said "Oh I was a cheer leader and prom queen and on and on". Finally we figured it out. She wanted a yearbook from 1964 in Paducah KY. ha ha I looked her up on Facebook.
Mary emailed me a picture of Jake and Andy on the roller coaster down in Las Vegas. He looks so happy.
And here's a couple more of the pics from Les Walden....
