Less than a week to go and it'll be November. Oh dear...and then Christmas time. I've been socking away little odds and ends for a while now but I'm always left with the dilemma of what to give to who. I haven't decided if I'll decorate the house yet. Seems like I say that every season and then once I peek inside the Xmas bins in the garage, I end up taking out a few pieces that are just too dang cute not to display. My decorating for the other holidays has pretty much gone by the wayside. In years past, I'd want to have something out for every single holiday that came around. Guess that changes as you age and it begins to be more work than it's worth. Well, that and the fact that I don't have a Hallmark household with gramma and grandpa and dog awaiting the arrival of all my children and grandchildren. Stupid commercials!
Yesterday I drove to Clearwater Casino to catch their shuttle bus to the Bainbridge Ferry. Made connections well and Ann Robson picked us up in downtown Seattle. She couldn't stay to visit as she had a doctor appt so she dropped us off at Swedish and Jenni went in for her hour long infusion. They provided me with a hard folding chair but I knew I couldn't sit there for an hour+ so I opted to go out to the main lobby to people watch and read my book. I spied a short couch that would allow me to put both feet up and I needed that. I didn't feel guilty hogging the couch as there were a lot of seats everywhere. That Swedish is huge. Like an airport terminal watching the comings and goings too.
We caught a cab to head back to the ferry and made good connections there, as well. Listened to an odd dialect on the cab driver's radio that he had tuned in. I asked him when we got out what the lady on the radio was talking about and where it was from. He said politics and it was Ethiopia. Always fascinates me to ride through the streets of downtown Seattle and see all the various types on the street. Am especially fascinated with the tents where the homeless live right on the sidewalk.
While in the hospital lobby, I started reading John Grisham's book 'The Street Lawyer.' I'm about 80 pages in and already hooked. Ann said she just finished reading 'The Girl on the Train.' She's sending it to me so I don't have to order it.
I had to stop at Walmart once we got back in town as I needed a few groceries and had to pick up a new prescription for blood pressure. Thankfully, it's only $5.50 a month. We stopped at Papa Murphy's to pick up a pizza 'cause we were too tired to think about dinner. We both went to bed early as those trips are hard on us.
I've spent the day working on my book. Unless I change my mind, I think I'm going to call this one: This Side of the Road. That was the name of my last blog and it doesn't appear that that title has been used for any other book. Dorothy Lamour did write one called 'My side of the road.' I'm having a good time working on this project although there are some days it's hard to sit down and get started. Once I do, though, I go for hours. Mostly I'm editing my Town Kid blogs from the Leader and working them into chapters. Having to delete an awful lot of stuff and I'll be adding more once I get going.
Jenni and her friend, Julie, have been working on a halloween parth they're throwing day after tomorrow. They'll have fun. They've sure had fun working on the invitations and decorations and games they plan to have. She was at scrapbooking camp over the weekend. Wayne came by after winning at the casino. (camp is close to 7 Cedars) Anyhow, he was playing this slot machine that had paid him $700 last week and this time it paid him $2200! I'm so happy for him.
He's looking into getting his dad's property cleared and seeing about septic and water as they "might" decide to put a mobile home there once him and Jenni reconcile. Which they will, I'm sure. They love each other.
I made up a big pot of homemade soup an hour ago. Chicken with veggies and noodles. Man, it smells good. And needless to say, I'm happy there's no dinner preparations I have to spend time on. I don't know why I don't make soup more often.
Looking forward to seeing Mary and Andy's halloween pictures. Jake wanted to be a cop so they got him set up with a cute costume and they're opting to wear orange jumpsuits as prisoners. ha ha
Jenni was a little upset reading the P.A. paper this morning. The front page picture and story was about a friend of hers who died unexpectedly. Not a close friend but she's known him for years. He was only 71.
I was going to split my day up between my book and sewing but sometimes I get started and don't want to turn off the computer. Maybe tomorrow I'll begin with starting a new sewing project and then switch over to writing. Especially since sewing wears me out faster as I have to get up and down and all around as I measure and search for this and search for that. I know what I want to work on next though, and I have those pieces of material already set aside. It's a 'row by row' panel of the US flag.
Next Tuesday I have to take my car in for a recall fix. Second time I've had to do that. Damn nuisance! I don't have anything else on my calendar until a couple of doctor appts in the second half of November. Maybe I'll make a run into PT to goof off a bit. Been trying to convince Jenni to go with me.
Catie is in Florida visiting her dad. Sue is in California visiting her in-laws. Mary is starting a new job at T-mobile (where Andy works). Hunter is working part time for a construction outfit and just got a letter for playing tennis. Maddie is waiting tables part-time at Traylor's and got her recognition for running cross country. My sister, Janie, is working on Barbie clothes for Christmas box packages for needy kids, my brother, Les, posted on Facebook that he wants to be called JohnLeslie now, and my brother, Dana, is probably working on his book and looking into hip replacement.
I haven't been taking pictures lately but did get this one from Sharon Sofie when I sent out requests to people asking if they'd ever found something unusual while beachcoming. (for my book) She sent along a picture of herself while on a beach in Oman. By the way, if you have any memories on beachcombing finds, email me at cedarrose61@hotmail.com.
