My day has kind of started with zig zags. Woke up at 4 and couldn't go back to sleep so I got up at 4:15 stumbling around the house and decided "yes, Joyce, you are still tired so go back to bed you damn fool!" I bundled up in my housecoat and opted for the recliner. Then I catnapped until 7 a.m. Got woke up by Jenni coming in. I had expected she'd be later in the morning (she had a sleepover with friends) but I guess they opted against breakfast and broke up early.
I fixed coffee and we read the morning paper together. She's big on reading all the ads (and uses them) while I seldom bother. I always read the "speaking out" column where they ask people on the street some question. This morning it was: What do you like to do for the holiday that is unique and special? Two made me laugh. One guy said -- My family is polytheistic. We believe in multiple gods. This year we are paying homage to Apollymi. She is the goddess of chaos. We'll be in darkness on Christmas. We do share presents, though. Another lady (homemaker from Forks) said: I have 12 children, 37 grandchildren and one great grandchild. So I would like to sleep. Whenever they all get together, it is special for me. Seems as though I'm always cooking, cleaning, and stopping fights.
ha ha Both made me chuckle.
The 'Rant of the Week' also made me laugh. And identify with! Had to do with younger family members being too absorbed in smartphones and TV during family gatherings while the elders slave away in the kitchen.
I cut out the People's Pharmacy for its tips on what spices help what ailment. Time to start trying new things to get through the daily body aches and pains.
Yesterday I made half a dozen cloth Xmas cards. Watched a Youtube video to get an idea on how it was done. I found a can of adhesive spray in the garage and that made it quick and easy. And a tad messy but oh well, I guess that's what crafting is all about. Making a mess.
I had some 5x7 Xmas cards that I think I picked up at Goodwill one year intending to use them for just such a project. I may make some more since I still have Christmas material onhand.
I picked up four books for Jake the last time I was at the public library book store. Surprised me that they were free. While looking for heavy books to put my homemade cards under to set the glue, I came across another book I had forgotten about. I looked it up on Ebay and it's selling for $30. I'll still gift it to him, though. It's a 1951 issue of a Golden Book.
Wayne stopped in last night so I had him hang some bird pictures I wanted to keep from an old calendar. Perks up this room mighty fine if I do say so myself.
I moved a few things here and there and was surprised at how much more room I made for myself in here. Cozy is the key word here. I spend a lot of time in this particular room sewing, writing, and surfing the net.
Watched the CBS Morning Show this morning. Loved it. I immediately went online to order the Rolling Stones latest CD 'Blue and Lonesome.' Amazon said it might take two months to arrive but then the order page said Dec. 15 to Jan. 15 so we'll see. At any rate, I'm looking forward to it.
Well, Jenni just left with Wayne to go shopping in Silverdale. She's gonna be one tired puppy at the end of this day. I'm already feeling like I could nap. I fixed scrambled eggs with one piece of bacon for breakfast but I was still hungry so now I'm gnawing on a graham cracker. My diet is moving along at a slow pace but I'm managing. Slipped a couple times when Jen made chocolate chip cookies for the kids but then I never could resist cookies right out of the oven. On the plus side, though, I only ate three and normally I'd have a minimum of six to nine! Yeah, I said nine! Getting this fat wasn't easy, 'ya know.
Made a quick scroll through Facebook to see if there were any interesting pictures. Found one that Mary Gaboury's daughter posted so I saved it.
My goal for this week is to get going on the wrapping of Christmas gifts. I have a table set up in the garage as a holding area once I get them finished. I don't relish this part of Christmas because I'm too impatient to take the time and make the gifts look like pieces of beauty. Some people are really good at that -- like my daughter, Mary. She doesn't do crafts but she does make her gifts beautiful.
And speaking of gifts -- Jake is gonna be one excited kid when he gets up this morning and discovers the stack of gifts he gets to open from his party yesterday at Arena Sports in Issaquah. Oh....just got a couple pics from Mary so I'll share here.......
Okay. Time for me to get to work on my book.
