Wayne came over and cut my lawn yesterday. First cut of the spring and he had his work cut out for him. Mainly on the strip on the east side that grows thick and green like you'd read about in a poem. The rest of the yard is dandelions and moss. Was surprised this morning to see a little frost had settled about.
Since I didn't have any pictures to share, I went outside this morning to take a few of nature. Boring, I know, but it's all I got.
A few daffodills have bloomed but I've noticed a house down the street that has a whole bunch up and healthy. Mine are taking their time.
The crocus are making their way through and much to my surprise, my almost dead rhubarb plant has revived. Yum!
I forget what these are called. Small little blue spring flowers I guess.
I'm curious what I stuck in the ground by this tree of mine. Whatever it is seems to be doing fine. Some kind of flower I'm guessing.
Oh, just remembered...gotta turn on the oven cleaning button. Something spilled in there at some point (no idea what) but everytime we use the oven now, the odor is annoying. Gonna have to hang out in here (takes two hours) because the odor from the cleaning cycle usually gets annoying too. But that's fine. I planned on working on my next quilting pattern anyhow.
I've got all the pieces cut out to iron on my various chosen fabrics so I'll be keeping busy, probably until this afternoon when I head back to the kitchen. Need to search online for a recipe for banana muffins and pumpkin muffins. Have two very ripe bananas begging to be put out of their misery and one cup of pumpkin left over from the cookies I made.
Bagged up the cookies and will hand out tomorrow as Mary Norton and I make about 20 stops in Port Townsend to deliver books. Should be a good photo opportunity as I'm hoping Mary will take a picture of me with each person we visit. Guess I'd better try and do something with my stupid hair. On the other hand, what's the use.
Daughter Mary had flowers delivered to me a couple days ago. So pretty. And quite a surprise too.
I had received a letter from my half sister (the one in prison) and she told me she had called her daughter one day and had heard that our mother passed away March 25th. No one had bothered to let her know. I'm very disappointed in that bunch in Pennsylvania. No excuse for that except laziness. Hell of a way for me to hear about it too. I've pretty much decided I'm going to cease communications with them. Not that they'll care one way or the other. I've had to do most of the work at maintaining keeping in touch and we're never going to meet again anyhow. I do have another half sister in NC, though, that is a completely different story. She wasn't raised by our mother, and we've managed to maintain a relationship, even though it's long distance.
Made up a little Easter gift to send Jake yesterday. Jenni and I were competing on who had the better looking package to mail. She won but only because she had better stickers.
Going to the doctor Tuesday morning to see if we can't get a handle on my high blood pressure readings. I'm on two pills now and if anything, they should have brought the numbers down; not up!
I've been taking my own b/p with Jenni's cuff and even went to a drug store to see what their machine showed. Bottom number continues to be in the 90s and that's not good. I'm going to be really pissed off if I have a stroke!
I stayed up till midnight last night and I never do that. Odd, too, because I was tired all day long. Guess that's what you call getting your second wind. I was working on this counted cross stitch pattern and involved in Netflix's episodes of 'Breaking Bad.' Seen all the shows before, of course, but it's still very entertaining to take in a second time. I've also been surfing around on Hulu and enjoying several shows there.
Dick Cavett's old interviews from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s are especially fun. Sometimes I have to fast forward through the 'stupid' people, though. I looked forward to Little Richard but instead of having him play piano and sing, he came on to sit and talk. Mistake. Silly, childish, and just plain dumb! John Lennon and Yoko were on a couple time and they were both ridiculous too! Sometimes you're very surprised at who is interesting and who comes off boring. Perhaps they're not boring so much as ill at ease being interviewed. At any rate, I found Bette Davis fun to listen to and Katherine Hepburn dull. Also dull was John Huston and George Burns. I suspect George was just a little too old to be on tv then as I've always found him quite funny before. I've still got black activists to watch, politicians, and more performers.
I came across this Hulu series called 'Shut Eye' last night and I'll probably watch it a while longer to see if it develops into something good. It's about gypsies and psychics and fairly good except for the violence parts.
And that's about it for this morning. Time to study that quilting pattern.
