I went into Port Townsend yesterday morning to attend a memorial service at the Elks Club for Rob Strain. Here's a picture taken at his 50th high school reunion in 2010.
Had to detour to get into PT because of road construction but it gave me a chance to see different scenery. I took West Valley Road coming home and then turned on Eaglemount. I think I'm going to have to get out my car manual to make sure I know exactly how to use my A/C as I didn't think the car was all that comfortable yesterday. Traffic was heavy and I stopped at the casino for about 20 minutes. Added $45 to my wallet so that felt good. Stopped again at Safeway when I got back in Angeles and by the time I pulled into my garage I was cooking!
Sue had just finished mowing my lawn but she said the heat hadn't been that bad. I did feel for the guys working across the street on the clearing they've been doing all week. Looks like all the scotch broom is gone and I suppose construction will start one of these days. Here's before and after pictures as seen from my driveway.
And here's a couple of photos I posted on Facebook this week. The first is a place mat I had back in the 70s when I had a daycare. The second is a cartoon I thought was cute.
Saw my cousin, Bill, at the Elks yesterday so it was nice to visit with him for a while. Him and Rob graduated together and were neighbors and good friends. Here's a shot of Bill that someone took at the Chimacum alumni reunion (where his wife went to school). He sure looks like his dad.
Mary's friends went to her house yesterday for a belated birthday celebration. One of their group couldn't make it as she was visiting a brand new granddaughter. I'll post a picture of "Charlie" too as I'm sure we're going to get to see a lot of her on Facebook in the months ahead.
Went out to water the flowers early this morning as I can tell it's going to be a scorcher later on. One of my red lilies (I think it's a lily?) opened up nice and big for a picture. I found his cow knickknack at Goodwill last week and thought it would be happier in one of my planter boxes.
I decided the red desk I was using for my laptop wasn't big enough so I switched it with my sewing table this morning. I've got a fan going in the sewing room and intend to head back there once the temps get too hot.
Happy Birthday this week to my sister-in-law, Lill, in Port Townsend. Here she is a few years ago when she painted their house.
In a couple weeks, my half-sister, Marian, is visiting with her husband, Jack. Never met them before so am eagerly looking forward to that.
Been working off and on with the 'guess the guest' contest in the Leader. Clues are too far off the grid to help me much but then I never can guess the correct answer. Still....I refer to them every now and again as I hate to give up.
Gotta take my car in for an oil change on Wednesday. Decided to get it over with and scheduled an 8 a.m. appt. Wayne and the twins will probably be moving into their rental next weekend as they hoped to be out by July 1st. Jenni and Sammy will stay on here until the new place is set up and ready for occupancy. Meanwhile, they've been packing and moving boxes for a couple weeks. I don't envy them as moving is the worst!
Just made a pitcher of iced tea and am thinking I might go pick up a Subway footlong sandwich to munch on for lunch and dinner. No way do I want to be cooking.
Finally finished watching the 81 episodes of "Life Below Zero" about people living in Alaska. Now I have to find something else to amuse me. I suspect I'm not going to get much accomplished today. Have been yawning ever since I got up.
