Just another ho hum holiday to me. Unless I get candy. Then my attitude changes quickly. ha ha Did get a couple valentine cards in the mail this morning, though, and those are appreciated. I used to send a few out every Feb. 14th -- to my kids (long ago), the grandkids, special girl friends, aunts, cousins, etc. but that's all kind of gone by the wayside. Same with Christmas cards and birthdays. Easier and cheaper to use electronics.
I ran two early morning errands hoping to beat the crowd. Joanne's was empty (all I bought was two pkgs of blue embroidery thread and then three regular spools that sat on the checkout counter to seduce customers. I can always use thread. I've got several row-by-row kits to work on and I finished one yesterday. I had put them away as they're time consuming and kind of hard to follow sometimes if their complicated. I chose one I thought would be halfway easy and it was once I figured out what I was doing with the fusible paper.
The large mother duck floating on her back was supposed to be different shades of yellow and orange but I just didn't have any. You can hardly even tell that's a duck laying on her back. I think I'm gonna' work on a lighthouse one next.
My refrigerator was looking mighty empty so I decided to hit Safeway on the way home. It was still early so I was kind of surprised at how crowded the place was. The floral dept seemed to be doing a business but I passed on by that. Didn't buy any meat but I needed some produce and none of that is cheap anymore! Also bought some cheese (also not cheap). Ended up with an $80 total and was happy to be done and on my way home.
When I was backing out of the garage, I saw through my rearview mirror that the rain was mixed with snow. That didn't please me. Hope mother nature doesn't have some tricks up her sleeve. It was mostly sleet but I still saw flakes on my window. Sigh....
Mary Norton and I were going to meet for lunch but she's still having some health issues and didn't want to push herself. I can relate to that. I was down with some kind of tummy upset for a few days. At first I thought perhaps it was something I ate but since it continued and I was chilled and fatigued, I marked it up to gastritis. Always happy and relieved when I'm back on my feet.
Sue came over yesterday to clean out some of my pots that I store on the side of the house but put on the deck in the springtime. She got my tulips, a daffodil and an iris planted. I've already got things coming up in the raised beds that she planted last year.
I got my kitchen mopped, the dishwasher ran, a load of laundry done, and a sewing project completed. A good day. My sister in prison back east mentioned this program they have where family can buy certain groceries for the inmate that they can't get in the commissary. She sent me a list and I went online to order a few things to surprise her with. I assume she'll get it this week.
My first cousin, Ann Evans, passed away Feb. 10th. Now I only have two girl cousins left -- Linda in KY and Susan in Chimacum. I have lots of first cousins, once removed, and second cousins, though. Ann was ten years older than me but we kept in touch through the years and her daughter, Katy, would bring her to PT to see relatives now and then. She was actually born in Port Townsend, as was her brother, Bill, who is now 80 and living in Seattle. Ann lived in Tacoma but was in a nursing home in Gig Harbor when she died. One of my first 'first cousins' to pass away also died in Gig Harbor. Bob Walker, oldest son of my aunt Velna. Here's a picture of me and Ann. You can sure tell we're related.
Not too much on my calendar of events for Feb. and March. I'm heading into Port Townsend Feb. 24th for George Cadero's funeral at the Catholic Church. In March I'll head to PT again for the annual mill retirement luncheon at Highway 20 Roadhouse. Always love going to those as I know everyone.
I'm thinking I might get going on rock painting again this week. So many ideas on Pinterest. I'm anxious to try the silhouette ones. Granddaughter Catie is busy with her jewelry making website too. You can see it on Facebook under Weinridge Jewelry. She does videos now and again too.
