Almost 9 a.m. and while the sky is gray and it looks like
rain, I don’t really care. I’ve got some work to do on the flower pots on the
deck and I’m actually looking forward to it, rain or no rain. It’s about the
only gardening I can do these days and I have the perfect stool to sit on. Allows me to bend over without killing my
back and still be able to get up.
Everything I sit on these days has to be evaluated beforehand to be
certain I can get up without assistance. Can make for an interesting scene in
restaurant booths but you learn to adapt as your body ages.
Walked out to the street to take the latest pictures of the houses going in and Cherl down the block a few houses was out walking her dog so I stopped to chat as she always knows everything going on. She had a sweatshirt on and I was in a light tee shirt so I was cold but didn't want to pass up the chance to learn something new so I toughed it out. And she delivered. ha ha
This isn't that great a picture of her, though. Funny thing is, as I stood there talking to her, she looked exactly like my Aunt Velna through the eyes. Fascinating to stand and face someone and see your long since dead relative staring back at you. She told me what she knew about some of the houses and the people who will live in them.
The second house in this photo (that's her dog in front) is smaller than the rest and has no garage. She told me it was because the woman didn't qualify for that big a place. She's going to make the front yard into a growing garden. Some of the houses have double car garages and some have single. One has two stories and Cherl thought the average size was 1200 sq feet. They also have heat pumps. The green house across from me doesn't look nearly as garish as it did at first but it definitely has different shade to it from the other places.
Cherl has been walking all over the neighborhood daily for years. She moved to this street eleven years ago. She collect recycled cans to make money and house sits dogs. She's a big animal lover.
Well, I can't remember anything I was going to yak about this morning so I guess I'll just post pictures and continue with whatever comes to mind. These next four photos are ones I took after Susan went out and did her magic on the overgrown weeds. The front area looks 100% better and I appreciate it.
This is a shot I took of the back weeds along the fence before Wayne weedeated them for me. First goldfinches I've seen so I hung up a thistle seed sock on a nearby tree.
This is Tugboat out for a walk. Jenni's friend who we came upon while we were hitting yard sales on Saturday.
Mike Logue posted this on Facebook and I thought it was fascinating. 50 lanes of traffic in China that converge into four lanes. Thank you God for not having me be born there.
My cousin Linda in KY with two of her grandchildren.
Maddie (in green) behind the leader of this race. She'll be going to state. She got a $1500 scholarship from the MS Society, a $2000 one from the track program, a $300 one from parents of cross country runners, and a $300 from her employer. Also one from Central where she'll be going to school. This Thursday Jenni and I will go to the High School library to meet with the school board for some other recognition program for her. (She won't be attending as she'll be at state with the track team)
Saw this picture on Facebook of San Juan Grocery finally being torn down.
This is Jake and Andy resting after their busy Rhody weekend in Port Townsend. I didn't make it in this year but maybe next year.
Mary Gaboury and her nephew, Mike McConaghy are coming up to P.A. on Wednesday to have their cars serviced so I'll pick them up and we'll hang out here for a couple hours. Think I'll take them over to Jenni's house so she can see it.
Sunday I'll be driving to P.T. for the memorial service for Ginger Jacobsen at the Elks. Will be stopping by Joanne Gilles' place too -- and Ruth's. The Sunday after that, I'll head to town again for Dave Marriott's memorial (again at the Elks) and then on the next Saturday, Joyce Lee and I will attend the social hour for alumni at the Elks in PT. Probably stop at the casino on the way home for dinner.
Jenni and Wayne are having a graduation party for the twins on June 16th so that will give me a chance to get a few people pictures. Mary, Andy, and Jake are coming up for the graduation at Civic Field the night before and will get a room for two nights so it will be a busy time.
Besides my deck gardening today, I plan on working in the sewing room a bit. I have 7 quilt tops done and need to see about getting the backing and batting together for each one. (hate that part) I do have half a dozen audio books from the library, though, so that should keep me entertained somewhat.
Guess I'll discuss various movies and shows I've seen on Netflix and Amazon while I'm in the mood.......
I've seen all nine Academy Award nominees now and the only ones I liked were Three Billboards of Ebbing MO, The Post, and Get Out. The rest were just so-so although I thought three of them were totally forgettable. Call me by your name, The shape of water, Phantom Thread, and Darkest Hour.
Other movies that had actor nominees that I kind of liked included Mudbound and All the money in the world. I've started to rewatch certain serials on Amazon and/or Netflix and liked them all over again. Especially Breaking Bad. Also like Nurse Jackie, The Crown, Better Call Saul, Big Love, Girls, and of course - The Sopranos. Last night I watched The Greatest Showman but I didn't realize it was a musical -- and a boring one at that!
I watched a documentary called Evil Genius on Amazon Prime and that was really something! I also tuned in to Brooklyn's Finest the other day but it was just F-words and shots to the gut throughout. And I hate those movies where the hero is Richard Gere who walks off into the night. Blech!
Well, I guess that's it for now.
