Yard Work is Killing Me

I’ve been having a hard time admitting that my body just plain isn’t going to perform all the tasks I used to handle easily. Yesterday was no exception.  I was determined to get the 19 pots on the back deck cleaned up and figured that was a fairly small chore—especially since I have a handy dandy stool to sit on.  That stool is dragged around from room to room depending on what I need it for.  After three hours I was hurting mightily but I’d gotten this far and wasn’t about to quit so I gave everything a good hosing down and stumbled into the house to clean up.  Of course, I wasn’t good for anything the rest of the day.  When I crawled off to bed at 8:30, I was sure all I needed was a good nights’ sleep and I’d be good to go.  Two and a half hours later, I was still struggling to drop off.  I hurt everywhere and especially my toes and feet which flare up with neuropathy and shooting pains now and again.

I don’t know why I never can seem to remember that I have this special “pot” cream on hand for just such occasions.  I got up and rubbed it on my toes and feet and put on some socks. Also rubbed a bit on my left hip which wakes me up every single solitary morning with bursitis or arthritis or some such issue. My routine has been to leave bed anywhere from 3 to 5 a.m. and finish out my sleep in the living room recliner.  I bought an electric throw a couple months back and that thing has more than paid for itself.
This morning I managed to stay in bed until 7.  Would have stayed another hour but the hip said no. As I came out into the kitchen, I found the hall light on and then I remembered…oh yeah….I had taken a couple of puffs on my vape stick last night too.  Never can think of what that thing is called so I googled it just now. Most websites came up with a big notice asking if I was really an adult. Ha!   Now I’ll have vape sticks showing up on my Facebook page asking if I’m still interested. Anyhow, that little puff helped too, I’m sure, as I was able to get to sleep quickly.  The only reason I have it (and intend to get it refilled) is because the juice in it attacks pain and doesn’t give you a high.  I’m not in the mood to get high!

Today the plan is to finish up a little weeding in the back.  I have two raised beds in the bottom of the yard that are full of tulip bulbs and it needs cleaning up in the worst way.  I also might relocate my hummingbird feeder. I went out to check it this morning and baby ants are crawling up the metal rod to partake of the sugar water.  Threw it out in the middle of the yard and will find another place to stick it – hopefully where the ants won’t find it but the birds will.

Nothing else on the agenda today but will have guests tomorrow when Mary Gaboury and her nephew come by while their cars are being serviced.  The sewing room is always calling  my name so that will most likely be my hangout for the afternoon.  Am listening to a John Grisham book on disk and it’s pretty good.  I’m also reading a Pat Conroy book called ‘The Death of Santini’.  I love his writing and this one doesn’t disappoint.
Well, back to my morning surfing online and working the crossword puzzle on the Wash. Post website.
