Hot August Nights

It's 8:30 a.m. and the temp gauge reads 75 for both inside and outside.  That means it's gonna' get uncomfortable later on -- but I'll deal with it -- just like everyone else has to.  I got up a couple hours ago and busied myself with various chores. Like to get everything done early so I can loaf the rest of the day.  Course my chores didn't amount to that much (for which I am thankful).  Ran a load of laundry and it's in the dryer now. Stripped my bed so I'll have to make it up once the dryer is done.  Ran the dishwasher, pulled the two large trash bins to the alley (for tomorrow's pickup), filled my vitamin container for a weeks' worth of attempting to stay healthy, and made up a pitcher of iced coffee and iced tea.

Today is going to be a "fasting day". So disappointed in myself for going a tad overboard the last  couple of days and eating too much.  Well, that'll teach me! Pounds up on the scale again -- but I'm back on the horse today.  I had made two recipes in my latest cookbook -- spinach squares and apple pops.  I have always adored the spinach recipe. It's basically super easy to prepare and has cheese and frozen spinach in it along with flour, baking powder, milk, and eggs.  You cut them like brownies. Ahhhhh....
The other recipe used one of those frigerator pkgs of crescent rolls. The kind where you hit it against the counter and they pop open.  It was an easy recipe too.

Unwind each roll, spread a tiny bit of butter on it and place an apple slice in the middle. I used 1-1/2 slices.  Sprinkle with a little sugar and cinnamon, roll up and bake on cookie sheet for 12 minutes. I also sprinkled a tiny bit of the sugar/cinn. mixture on top of each apple top.  Man, were they tasty!  And yes, I ate them all!  Took me two days but I'm a pro at killing off desserts in record time.

My sewing room needed some overhauling (such a mess) but I'm getting there. I have several bins of "scrap material" and I'm taking my sweet time to cut pieces into 2" and 3" strips so I can sew them together and eventually make jellyroll type quilts.  They ought to be quite colorful when I'm done.  It's a slow process, though, and I have A LOT of scrap material awaiting me.  I picked up a few audio books at the library and while the first two didn't do much for me, I am liking the third one. "Rescue" by Anita Shreve. My next one will be "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair.  Course, if I tire of books, I've got a small tv in there with Roku attached giving me access to Amazon, Netflix, Pandora, Hulu, and a few others.  Also have a second tv with a built-in VCR allowing me to run old movies. I did clean out about 3 dozen+ old VHS tapes a while back.  Put them on the "free recycle website" for Clallam County and a lady came by and picked them up. Saved me a  trip to Goodwill which I'm not all that fond of contributing to if I can find other outlets.

My latest favorite thing to watch on Amazon is 'Scott & Bailey'.  Two English women who are detectives. Sometimes it's hard to follow the dialogue (those English accents and all) so it's a show I have to watch while sitting in my recliner and paying attention.
Last night's episode was really something.  They were called to this house because of the smell and the two old people hadn't been seen for a while.  After breaking in the door, they found the guy (bedridden) upstairs near death and his wife at the top of the stairs.  Her head was at the bottom of the stairs and when they first busted in the door, their dog ran out.  Anyhow, come to find out the old couple had abused all four of their kids decades before so none of the kids came around. One killed herself. They got the old guy into the hospital and at one point, a detective offered him a cigarette and he hopped out of bed and went to the window to smoke it. They figured he had killed the wife (hit her over the head and threw the weapon out the window)
Eventually, they figured out the dog started feeding on her neck and he was the one who made it come off and roll down the stairs.  ha ha   Stephen King type stuff.  And yes, I did laugh.  Shame on me.  I also laughed at another episode where the victim had his penis shoved down his throat.  Oh my!

Yep!  This is what I enjoy watching on tv now.  Well, this and nature shows and survivor shows --and The Waltons.  ha ha

Went to the doctor a couple days ago and got a cortosone shot in my left shoulder. I'd been putting up with significant discomfort since July 1st and had finally had my limit.
I must say I feel better.  I gave her a painted rock when I left.  ha ha  Her reward.

This Saturday I'm driving into Port Townsend with my daughter, Susan.  Want to ride around town taking pictures (I have a list) and then we'll head to the fair for a couple hours.  Am hoping I run into people I know because I need some good pictures for Facebook.

Well, that's about it for now.  I've got a few more photos on my hard drive to sort through and put in their proper files and then I'm off to play in the sewing room until late afternoon when I'll transfer to the recliner to watch TV and do cross stitch.  I'm making designs to put on small canning jars and will add goodies to the jars. I've made three so far, and have three more ready to attach to jars today.  I made a really cute one of a rooster but darn if it isn't a tad to big for the lid.  Nuts!  Now I'll have to find something else to do with it. Either stick it on a small quilt wall hanging or make a card out of it. (which I'm not that good at but I suppose I could try)
