My Hometown in the Fall

I filled up my car with gas at Safeway yesterday morning before heading into  Hadlock and Port Townsend. I  already had close to half a tank so I didn't think it would cost  much. Silly me. Over $30 later, I was on the road by 10 a.m.  Traffic both ways, of course.  There always is these days.  I really don't care much for driving anymore. I haven't for years. Mainly because people are so blasted crabby when they get behind the wheel.  If there's anything that irks me, it's tailgaters who drive too close to me letting me know they can't wait to get around that ole bag!  That ole bag, by the way, is always going the speed limit or even 5 over.  If I get up to 10 over, I slow it back down. I certainly don't need a ticket and they're easy to come by now that the cops are patrolling in unmarked cars.

I was invited to this halloween party that Shari Glessing (a friend of my daughter, Mary) has every year. They decorate cookies which Shari has baked ahead and sometimes carve or paint pumpkins. It's more of a chance for their gang to get together and eat (lots of yummy food) and watch the Seahawks.  I only stayed about an hour as I had other stops I wanted to make. Main purpose for going was to deliver this large tin of beads and jewelry to Mary so she could pass it along to Catie. A friend had given it to me for her.  I also had made various "things" I wanted to gift just so I could get them out of the house.  Been so busy sewing these past months that the collection of quilts and other cross stitch items was really piling up. I posted a few pictures of that event on Facebook but will add a couple here too......  (Note:  You can click on photos to enlarge)
                                                          Jenny, Shari, Mary, Tami

David & Erin Plastow and Andy Krogermeier

                                                              Neal and Bobbie Liden

I couldn't find Shari's house at first and this totally irritated me because I've been there before AND she lives in my old neighborhood.  Streets where I rode my bike for years.  Somehow I was coming from a different direction and the old neighborhood just looked different.  Sigh....

Anyhow, I drove around town and took quite a few pictures from my car.  I know. Bad Joyce.  I knew, though, that if I stopped to park and walk around for all the places I wanted to get pictures of that my energy level would dip way too fast and I'd have to cut my picture project off.  Course I probably would have gotten way better pictures too. I did get out at a few places --Kai Tai Park, the railroad Y beach, and Point Hudson. The rest, though, were taken as I sat in the car.

If there's anything I love, it's getting photos of various houses or places that have changed over time. Places that I knew as a child are especially interesting to me. And some of you will have seen some of these pictures before because I do tend to take the same house shots over and over.  And starting with the house shots (homes of relatives) I'll post some before and after on this blog today.  Like I said, repeats but it amuses me and I can repeat on my blog all I want.  hee hee

My aunt Elva and Uncle Lyall's house on Lawrence Street uptown. Huge difference from when I hung out there. Picture below...

Uncle Jim & Aunt Lillian's house on 19th & Haines hasn't changed that much EXCEPT for how it looks when they first lived there.  I think I have one of construction going on so I'll go look for that.

How the house looked when Jim & Lillian last lived there. I spent a lot of time in this house as it was next door to our place. Originally, it was a chicken house on grandpa's property and they hauled it over to Jim's lot so he could start making it into a home.
This is Uncle George & Aunt Lorraine's house today. You can barely see it from the street.
This is how it looked when the cousins lived there
And this is how it looked when George first bought it. Huge difference, isn't there?

This is how my Aunt Velna's house looks today with a fence

And this is how it looked in the 1940s.  I also spent a lot of time in this place

This was the view from Velna's yard.  The lagoon is in background. Picture below shows the view now and you can barely see the substation.
Velna's house is the blue one. A larger home was built right in front of her view.

Here's a winter view of our San Juan Avenue house. We always called it the pink house.
It's a yellow house now and this pic was taken from the golf course

The rest of these photos were ones I just took as I rode around.......
