It's 12:30 in the afternoon and I just finished working on my laptop cleanup. It never fails to amaze me how many pictures I accumulate on my hard drive and have to take the time to file away in various folders so I can find them later -- or how many I just plain need to delete. I sure am thankful, though, that digital cameras came into being while I was on this earth. It's been a heck of a lot more fun than having to deal with old cameras, poor snapshots, expensive developing, and fading images.
I'm starting another diet today. Story of my life...a story that always seems to have the same ending. Meaning "her intentions were good but her follow thru sucked big time!" I'm way beyond thinking (and I have been for several years) that I'm going to be a slim Jim or a slim Joyce but I am still going to try again and again to at least work at it.
I was pretty active physically as a kid. Or at least that's how I remember it. We played outside. I rode my bike (loved my bike!) and we pretty much had to walk anywhere we went. Or run. I used to run. I vaguely remember that. This December (as December usually end up being) was plentiful with desserts and yummy good things. It's all gone now. I either ate it all or gave it all away. Good reason to start fresh. My plan is to cut carbs and to do some fasting. Maybe not 24-hr fasting one day a week like I did for a while but modified fasting where you eat two meals a day or one meal a day, or cease eating after 6 pm. I can do all that easy enough. Making myself drink more water is a little harder. You wouldn't think it would be but I've managed to make it a challenge.
And then there's that exercise thing. There was a short period during my life where I got into walking and I really enjoyed it, but bike riding was always my first love. Oh, how I miss those rides now. I gave away my treasured bike to Mary. Miss that bike but I knew after my fall and my knee replacement and my shoulder replacement that my courage to go out pedaling alone just wasn't going to happen. Falls can sap any confidence you have and I know bike riding is going to be one of those activities I used to do. Fat lady in her mid 70s probably doesn't have any business being out on a bike alone anyhow. But I'll figure something out. I'm hoping walking might become something I'm comfortable with. Perhaps if I start slow, and use one or two walking sticks. Right now the low back and hips fight me tooth and nail to even be on my feet for any length of time just here in the house. We'll see how January goes.......
I ordered YoutubeTV the other day. It's $54 a month (big rip off!) so I'm subscribing for one month. Just missed watching golf too much and Seahawk football is something I'm looking forward to today, as well. YoutubeTV offers a lot of other channels as well but none of them are all that interesting to me so I won't be tempted to subscribe longer. I can pretty well stay entertained with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. There are some other free channels available on my roku device, as well, so there's plenty there. Amazon was offering Showtime for three months for $5.99 so I signed up for that too. I'll probably be done watching what I want to see in just one month, though, so the price is right. There are a few programs worth my time but the main one is Ray Donovan. Do love that guy and his brothers and dad too!
I've been having problems staying asleep lately. Seems to come and go so last night I took a melatonin to see if I could stay in bed and asleep past 4 or 5 a.m. I didn't get up until almost 8 this morning so either the pill did the trick or my body just plain did her own thing. I haven't got any chores on my to-do list today so it's going to be a day of jigsaw puzzle, reading, and television. Probably napping too; that seems to be a requirement most afternoons.
The one thing I did have to attend to today was to pull the large trash bin back up into the yard from the alley. My pickup day is Friday but since Christmas set us back a day, I figured he'd come yesterday on Saturday. But he didn't. Not sure why. I checked the neighbor's bin to see if he had even come down the alley and their trash is still sitting too. Oh well, it'll get picked up sooner or later.
I don't have a thing scheduled on my calendar all this week and nothing for January except a funeral in Port Townsend on the 19th. I undecorated the house the day after Christmas and spent the morning yesterday packing everything away all nice and compacted. Got everything into one bin since I downsized last summer. Decided while I was in there packing, I might as well straighten up the room with the other boxes I've got stored back there but have continued to get in and out of as I need things. Have got my fingers crossed that I get to move before summer rolls around again.
The puzzle I'm working on now is a Hallmark one my friend, Ann, gave me. Just love it. I prefer 500 pieces over the 1000 pcs. Easier to get done in less time.
I had a small amount of material on hand that was just enough to make a small quilt for a boy. I decided a couple days before Xmas to make up a blanket for Jake, even though Mary told me they had enough of my handiwork already. Too bad. I figured if Jake couldn't use it, Poppy could. ha ha
Anyhow, Jake seemed to like the blanket and I guess that was enough for Poppy to decide she liked it too. Mary texted me that Poppy had "stolen" it three times already from Jake. Those two are kind of like siblings in the way they compete for Mary and Andy's attention. Cracks me up.
And now I'm off to the recliner to see what football I can find on the tube. Have a Happy New Year Day as we enter into 2020!
