MLK DAY

5 pm on a gray dismal looking day.  Not sure if it's fog or what out there but it sure looks like winter. Still no rain although I'm thinking it's close.  A few drops here and there, I suppose.  Mailman brought me an Amazon package today. A book I ordered called Quench after listening to this woman on the coast to coast am radio show.
I managed to finish a small quilt today.  Had a few pieces of batting so I sewed them together to make enough for a blanket that ended up about 43x48.  Had some red checked flannel sheeting from Goodwill and that was the backing.
Tomorrow I'll work on making another quilt square from my favorite quilt pattern book.  I'm trying several different designs out using odds and ends of material in my stash.  Not that interested in doing anything really difficult, though.  Just playing around mostly and will put all the squares together sooner or later. It'll be colorful that's for sure.

Am labeling each one with a post-a-note as I might work the titles into the design. Or not. I'm thinking on it.

Drove into Ruth Kvinsland's funeral in Port Townsend yesterday. Full parking lot, full house inside. She would have been so pleased. Here's the picture that was on the program front. Sure am going to miss that friend.
I saw half a dozen classmates there but didn't really get a chance to talk to them much. Ruth's son, grandson, brother, and nephew all spoke and the church ladies had refreshments in the common room. Many were going to the Elks later for a gathering there.  I wanted to go but I also needed to gt home before dark and I still had groceries to buy as I hadn't been out for a week.  The roads were clear but not until I got off my street. It was horrid.  Scared me half to death and I was thankful it was just two blocks long. Coming home, I slid and almost hit a parked car. Once I pulled in the garage, I knew I wasn't leaving again until the rains washed away more of the ice and slush.  Thankfully, a neighbor shoveled my driveway the day before so I could get out. It was still a good two feet high.

I didn't get a chance to take too many pictures as not everyone stayed for the refreshments. Here's a few....
John, Ruth's son, with Bev and Rich Stapf, Jr. just after they placed her ashes in the urn wall.
                                             Kvinsland sisters with Sharon Sofie
                                                 parking lot at Lutheran Church

                                                        3 of the posters displayed
Ruth's nephew and niece, Rich and Tiffany
Rob Merritt & Kerri with their son (John's best friend)
                                                                                Elaine Arey

I stopped at my brother, Dana's house for just a couple minutes. Needed to drop off some track t-shirts of Maddie's so Lill can make a quilt out of them.   Also stopped at my sister, Janie's to pick up a couple of items.  I was really glad to get home and the trip tired me out.  I was a tad tense to start with and driving down and back wears me out these days.  Gettin' old.

Somehow or another I managed to delete all of the 1980s of my diary notes. Probably done in error when I was cleaning out files.  I do that sometimes. Makes me so mad as they're just plain gone. I empty the recycle bin from time to time too.  I've got a potato baking in the oven along with one drumstick. Have a salad left in the fridge of the five I made ahead.  Stopped by a friend's house in PT as she had a couple of jigsaw puzzles to give me. I set out the 300 piece one today but am really looking forward to the second one as it's 500 pieces and glows in the dark. Ha!

I didn't have too much to attend to today. I threw some stale rolls out to the crows, gave the hummingbirds some fresh sugar water, took out the trash, washed my housecoat, wrote a letter, and fried up an onion burger for lunch.  Not sure what I'm going to do to occupy myself tomorrow.  I need to get back into writing. Having a project gives you a reason to get up in the morning. My brother is working on his 4th book already.

My cell phone battery has been running down too quickly so Mary told me what steps I could do to lengthen the life. If you need a new battery you have to physically take the phone to the apple store. Not wanting to do that as it's on the Seattle side of the water.  I turned off the wifi, the bluetooth, turned down the brightness, turned off the location settings, the personal hotspot, and closed all apps open in the background. All things I had no idea of if I didn't get directions written out step by step.

Here's two cute ones from Facebook that I saved..

Three good friends went for a swim.
The one who was fat wished she was thin.
The one who was curvy wished she was clever.
The one who was clever wished she swam better.
The really great swimmer wished she was witty.
The one who was witty wished she was pretty.
All three friends thought the other two were just fine.
If only they could let their own bright light shine.
So throw on your swimsuit if you're fat or you're thin.

Enjoy fun and friendship .... love the skin that you're in!

I had to scan in a page from a 1990 PT annual 'cause someone told me I left out a few people in the S's.  Surprised it took so long to be told as I did that project years ago. I've got it posted on FB on my page called Jefferson County Washington of Yesterday. Much to my delight, I see I've got over 1200 followers. Wow.

Well, I guess that's all I have for today.  Still waiting patiently to be told an apartment is available across town.  Sigh....and sigh again!
