I decided to get away from this building for a while today. Had certain places I wanted to go and take pictures and since the weather seemed agreeable, I was off right after breakfast. Unfortunately, I didn't realize until I got home and downloaded the pictures onto my laptop that I saw this big ole SMUDGE on my lens. Disappointed that a few of the shots had to cropped in order to lessen the flaw. I'll remember next time to always check first.
There's about two dozen in this batch and I've separated them by the stops I made. So....here's your travelogue for today. I've been hoping to catch some bird pictures since I have this terrific tree outside my living room window but I haven't been able to catch any yet. I had hoped to find some at Chetzemoka Park but no luck there either. Here's what I did take:
Oh the memories of the beach at Chetzemoka. I really wanted to go down there but I figured the climb back up would wear me out, even though I was using two walking sticks today. The tide was sure out.
Another shot, 'cause I couldn't take just one. I love all the beaches surrounding Port Townsend.
I thought this was overkill. Tape and barrier put across with a sign about the virus. Give me a break!
The smudge really got in the way of this shot but these Rhodys were mighty pretty on the entrance into the park. My shot doesn't do them justice.
I thought this was stupid too!
Always have to stop and give the trees their due. So pretty.
When I drove up I noticed all the parking places were taken. Almost. Once I got inside and found no kids anywhere, I realized the folks doing tai chi were in attendance. In a big circle, of course, keeping their safety distance. Sigh....
I drove back up Blaine and saw Ralph Nite out for a walk. He was the only person I saw all day that I recognized. I went up to the Lincoln Bldg to walk around and took some pictures of the hillside off F F Street that I used to live on. My God! Town is changing all the time.
I left a painted rock that my neighbor gave me last year on the grounds of the Lincoln Bldg. Kind of as memory of all the recesses I took out there.
How many times did we go through these doors. A lot!
And did we ever notice the mountain view from the playground. Probably not.
That was my first grade room right there in front. Miss Tooker. My 3rd and 5th grade classes were also on this side of the building. Is that interesting or what?!
This is just left of the ole stone steps going from the grade school up to the high school -- on the way to the candy store!
My junior high haunt
The view of the valley below. Never get tired of looking at it.
The Field House at the lower field. I had to ask a couple of people what it was called back in our day. Thank you John Ecker and Sharon Sofie. Here's a view of it below in 1977
Here's the shots I took from the playground area of the F Street hill where I used to live.
Bobby Comas' house on Fir and F Street across from the lower field
Where I lived on F Street in 1973-74
How the house looks now (what you can see of it behind all the trees)
How the hillside looked back in the day and below is how it looks now. That large house right in front is blocking my old house directly behind it. Fascinates me.
Another view of the hillside. I would have LOVED to have gone upstairs in the school but that's never gonna' happen.
My last two shots were of Del's Grocery and the bicycle shop next to it that used to be the tennis court and before that it was housing projects.
The only place I saw a lot of people, besides Safeway where I stopped to get a few items, was the food bank just up from the bike shop where the junior high used to be and which now houses the police dept, a radio station, and probably some other things along with the pool.
Now that I see I can walk halfway okay using two sticks, I think I'll mosey on downtown next time to window shop and see what's what on my old Water Street today.
