Today was better than yesterday

At 2 a.m. I moved from  my bed to my recliner because my hip was killing me. I even have my walker set up near the bed now as I can barely walk when I first get up. It's just delightful. I managed to drop off to sleep for another four hours and the pain was still there at 7 but manageable. Got better as I was up and about. I'll just deal with it.

Mary wanted to come over so I went downstairs to the lobby to show her up to my apartment. The manager was in her office but the door was closed as were the blinds. We walked by quickly as I didn't want  a confrontation if I could avoid it. Sooner or later, it's gonna happen though. And I'll deal with it then.

We decided to go get lunch at McDonalds as I had a gift card. We got our goodies and intended to sit downtown to people watch. No such luck. No parking anywhere. A lot of spaces have been taken up with two new street parks. Actually, I think there are three parks down there now. We went uptown to Lawrence but couldn't find any action there either so we just sat near the Baptist Church and ate our goodies. Decided to go visit a classmate, Jud Gammage, who lives out on Hastings. Mary had marched with him at graduation. First, though, we stopped by Sandy Ellis' place to visit with her for a few minutes. She was outside weeding.

We had a hard time finding Jud's driveway but we did and his dog was really excited to see company. Jud had to go tie him up as he kept getting up on the car wanting in.

Jud's lost 100 pounds, quit drinking beer, and walks an hour a day.  Thought he was having a heart attack last year ? so drove himself to the hospital and they flew him (I think) to Harrison in Bremerton. Or was it Seattle? Anyhow, his aorta valve was all blocked so they gave him a new one and sent him home. During this process of preparing for surgery, they found cancer in his pancreas and his liver?  I love my memory.  The pancreas cancer was not the kind that spreads but was a tumor. They got that fixed and sent him home. Later he was bleeding profusely and was taken back to the hospital.  Seems the surgeon had nicked a bowel when working on the pancreas. They fixed it the best they could but now he has a bag until they can try again to fix that bowel hole. They think they can. Ironically, he said he was there at the Seattle hospital on Thanksgiving and heard the helicopter fly over. Found out later it was Ruthie on that chopper.
He was in great spirits and made us laugh a lot. Said he's  hoping that we'll do something for our 60th next year.  We discussed the virus problem too. He said before surgeries, he had to go to Seattle for a Covid test, come back home and wait to see if it was negative and then go back to Seattle again for surgery. He had a hard time finding a driver once the virus became the top story in the world but he did find a uber driver in Silverdale willing to take him back and forth.  I asked him what his dog's  name was and he said Roy. Named him after Roy Grewell because he was never worth a damn. haha

After leaving there we went down to Penny Saver Market so Mary could get sandwiches for her and Dave and we could both get our lotto & Hit Five tickets. I almost got t-boned by a woman coming out from the stop sign at the bottom of Lawrence. She just plain didn't see me.  Mary was yelling and I stepped on the gas to speed up. There was that one second or two when I waited to see if I had made it or she was gonna hit me. Scary stuff.

My neighbor sent me a picture of the front of my Port Angeles house to show how the new owners are fixing it up. So glad to see that. I would have liked to have taken out everything that was in there too.

Here's an interesting picture I saw on Facebook of PTHS alumni in front of Hilltop Tavern holding signs for the graduating seniors.

Much to my relief I was able to find a doctor this morning. One who is actually taking new patients. And I'm getting in on June 25th. Office is two blocks away. Yay!  This will be my first time in seeing an actual doctor in a long time. I'm still keeping the appt. with the nurse but that appt isn't until the end of September. I hear she's super so I may want to have two people I go to. If you can do that. We'll see.  Mary and Sandy were discussing having their annual medicare well check and everything they check on you. I have never had one of those. Wonder why.

Watched a great movie on PBS last night. Rebecca. If they repeat it, try to catch it. It's a 2020 movie.
I didn't get any genealogy paperwork sorting done today but there's always tomorrow.  Same with rock painting.  It'll wait.
