Well, nuts! I just
hate it when the internet goes out. I
never know if it’s my equipment or the cable company. I’ve been watching Marcella on Netflix all
afternoon and was down to the last couple of episodes when I stopped to get on
my jammies and take a quick break. Came
back to it and NO INTERNET! Can’t even
play solitaire but I can get into Microsoft Word so I thought I would write
another blog piece and then cut and paste it with photos once the net comes
back.
I didn’t leave the apartment all day. Worked on a few more bags this morning,
watched a little golf, and settled in to binge watch my latest favorite. One thing I sure hate about a lot of the
channels is that I can’t hear what they’re saying so I turn on my sound box (or
whatever you call it) and then the volume blasts me out of my chair during the
scary parts. I know darn well they up the volume.
But there’s nothing I can do about that so I’ll just get on
with what I was going to discuss today.
My treasures. This
isn’t all of them, of course. I have things stored at Jenni’s and I have a few
boxes of other things I can’t get rid of. Old magazines, newspapers, high
school stuff, Christmas decorations, books, knickknacks, jewelry, post card
from Stephen King, letter from Carol Burnett, wall hangings…oh the list is endless. But here’s the rest of my small shoebox
keepers.
I’ll just add ten for now.
Dana and Lill’s wedding invitation. They made them up themselves and held their
wedding at Buck Creek Camp Grounds in Enumclaw with a detailed map they drew
with directions. This was 1975.
TV Guide Magazine from October 1955. Mary gave it to me and
I’m leaving it in my will for her. It has Mickey Mouse on the cover and cost 15₵.It’s
really interesting to read.
This little ring is probably a piece of junk worth nothing
but I don’t dare throw it away because I don’t know where it came from or if it
belonged to somebody special. I probably found it on the street years ago.
My son-in-law, Andy, gave me this set of state quarters from
2004 but I couldn’t use them if I wanted to as they’re encased in plastic. Not
that I want to. They’re pretty.
This next item was given to me by Kevin Wright at the mill.
At least I think it was because it’s taped to his calling card of when he was
export sales manager. I do remember that he traveled a lot and I was always
hitting up any traveling mill people to bring me rocks from wherever they were
going. He wrote:piece of city wall, Deitelbach Germany c 1350.
This was my first Bible. It was given to me by Rev. Robbins
of the Trinity Methodist Church two weeks before my 9th birthday.
These are pieces of gold from my teeth. That’s kind of gross
(I guess) but it’s gold so I’m not throwing it away. I wonder if it’s worth
anything or where I could cash them in.
This is a 1956 calendar that Del’s Grocery used to give out
every year to his regular customers. And we were definitely regulars. I stopped there daily on the way home from
school to buy candy.
This was a book my Aunt Velna drew (she was a fabulous
artist and seamstress. She was 18 when
her mother gave birth to my dad and his twins and the kitchen queen cupboard
she featured in this book is still in the family.
These are diamonds that I got from the mill after a certain
number of years worked. Although I only
worked for CZ for five years and then it became Port Townsend Paper so I’m
betting these pieces might be my dad’s.
Now I think I’ll go see if the net is back up. If not, I’ll
try later tonight or tomorrow to post this.
8:45 pm
Finally got the net up. Finished up season 2 of Marcella on Netflix. Already looking forward to season 3. Really a good show!
