The worst part of the day for me (at least these past months if not longer) is early morning when I first wake up. Used to be mornings were good but the older I get, the more that isn't the case. My hip, sometimes both hips, are the first to remind me that the body isn't as young as she used to be. Ha! Like I need a reminder. But I won't go into that now or I'll end up typing hundreds of words and I don't even want to start on that subject. The hell with it! It is what it is.
I woke up at 5 and couldn't get back to sleep so I headed to the recliner (that's become a common practice too). Usually I can fall asleep for at least another hour or two but not today so I threw in the towel and got up. Turned on the tv and after checking all the channels and seeing that cable totally sucks, I turned on music and plodded aroung the apartment tidying up, getting dressed, etc. etc.
I went online while the coffee was brewing but my laptop (for whatever reason) absolutely refused to move. Said it wanted to reboot so I threw in the towel and clicked GO AHEAD! Then I went to my recliner to read (Weird Sisters) and I immediately nodded off. Grrrrr.... Grabbed my nap blanket and headed to the more comfortable recliner and slept for an hour. Then I really felt groggy and icky.
I forced myself to do a few chores anyhow hoping the movement would revive me. Washed the dishes (I often leave them from the night before) and then I decided my coffee stained coffee cups needed a bleach bath. Threw in some brushes under the sink too. I took a bag of scrap material down to the activity director who asked me for any throwaways so they could use them in crafts. I came back and did the crossword and thankfully, the laptop was done acting up.
Thought about dinner and settled on making some hamburger patties full of chopped onions. Only it's ground chicken, not beef. Might make some mashed potatoes to go with it or just have a burger. Are you bored yet? haha
I've been wanting to get into some of the neat fabric I was given and thought perhaps I'd try to make a table runner. For some reason, I'm not very good at runners. I watched several videos on youtube and then I took some scrap purple material to make my mistakes on the first one. I had this little card in my sewing basket of an easy runner to make using two pieces of material so I thought I would try that first. When I got done, I decided one step on that card was incorrect as the runner wasn't how I envisioned it. I ripped out a couple seams and then it looked better -- except I made it way too short. I think my length was 36" and I should have made in 46". Whatever. I'll use it myself to cover a tv tray that I used for end tables.
I am going to try again, though, and maybe I'll take a stab at making one with batting inside. Only thing is, I think I'm going to have to order some real light wt batting as I don't have much on hand, if any.
Yesterday I took a morning and an afternoon nap. Both an hour long and I'm already thinking now I need another. I guess it's because I'm not sleeping soundly at night. Old people always seem to have issues with sleep problems. Tomorrow sometime (was told anywhere from 9 to 3) the maintenance guy is installing a new faucet in my bathroom. I hadn't noticed it needed another but he says it was leaking when they did an apartment check a few weeks ago. They had a resident meeting this afternoon and have decided hummingbird feeders can't be attached to the windows. Said they were going to attach something from the outside instead but I'm betting they'll just have shepherds stakes on the ground below. Which I'm okay with really since I noticed my feeder has been making a mess of the siding. I didn't notice it until last week when I went to the courtyard and looked up hoping to figure out where those blasted black birds were making nests. It's just sugar water but the hummingbirds managed to make a bit of a mess. This morning I noticed a smaller than usual black bird in the tree outside my window. I knew because of all the racket they've been making for a while now that they had nests in the eaves and over my apartment ceiling. I heard them running around like mice. The smaller bird I saw today I'm assuming was a baby. Wasn't real little but was smaller than the birds I've seen and it cheeped like a younger bird. Looked a little scruffy too. I hope that means the eggs have hatched and they'll all leave and go some place else.
My brother and his wife came by yesterday. Brought me a 1000-piece puzzle and I recognized the picture right away as Mary and Andy visited there and sent me a pic. (Italy) I don't usually do 1000 piece puzzles because they take longer and my space is limited but I might give it a whirl as I have at least one or two others up in the closet that are 1000 and I'd like to do them. Maybe by using paper plates stacked with same colored pieces, I can make some headway. Will mean having my card table set up in the small living room but it's doable.
Happy Birthday to my son-in-law Andy. I think this picture is one that shows my puzzle in the background.
