New guy moved in next door yesterday. I know his mom from high school. Most of the apartments don't have bedrooms butting each other but this place and his place do so I made a point of moving my bed to the opposite wall and I'll be careful not to sew at night. Not that I have any energy to sew at night but the machine does sit against the wall where his head is. I made sure to pull the sewing table away from the wall and I hung a quilt on the wall to maybe help soften the whirr of the machine. At any rate, I'm very careful to not make unnecessary noises if I can help it. My attempts, however, are only successful maybe 75% of the time. Especially in the kitchen where I invariably let a pan lid fall to the floor, or clang dishes getting them in and out of the cupboard, or let a cupboard door slam too loud, or let the teapot scream too long...oh the list is endless when you're trying to be quiet. This morning, for example, I pulled a tv tray away from my bed to fix the sheets and it hit the door stop going TWAAAANGGG! I figured the lady below me (whose bedroom is directly below) must have heard that racket. Sometimes watching tv at night can be a real challenge depending on what the movie I have on is doing. Some sound tracks get so low you can't hear them so you crank up the volume and then an action scene comes on and the roof comes off the building with the increased noise. Drives me crazy. I am going to ask the guy to move his bed an inch away from the wall, though, as everytime he turned over, it thumped my wall and woke me up. I guess I'm a light sleeper. I moved my Alexa next to my bed and am going to experiment today with what white noises I can pull up on it to help drown out various sounds. I have very good hearing. Wish my eyes were that good. Gonna have to have cataract surgery this summer.
Anyhow, I've been a busy little bee this morning. I went downstairs at 7 to mail a letter, washed dishes, tested some batteries, wrapped a gift, thawed out a cornish game hen for supper, did the crossword, surfed facebook, and spent entirely too much time trying to get my cell phone to work. It's quit letting me send a picture to my email. Oh wait a minute. I need to turn off my phone and see if that fixes it.
SUCCESS! Yea!
I'm going to work this puzzle first and then another that my brother brought gave me of a place in Italy. It happened to be a spot where Mary and Andy vacationed one year.
My biggest chore today was to rearrange the living room. (It's what I live for) I wanted to set up the card table with a 1000-pc jigsaw puzzle but that meant rethinking how I have the table arranged. Problem solved. I turned it 90 degrees, put in the leaf, and moved the printer, set up the card table and WA-LAA! I think I'm good to go. I don't really have much company but when I do, there's room for them to sit and that's all that matters.
I went over to Mary Gaboury's yesterday as her nephew had hired a tree-topping outfit to remove some trees right behind Mary's trailer. He was worried about liability if a storm hit and the trees fell on the neighbor's house. Was interesting to watch the crew. Two guys up in the trees with pulley ropes and chain saws while a half dozen guys on the ground picked up the branches and threw into this very loud chipper machine that tossed sawdust. Expensive project too. Over $3000!
Yesterday Mary sent me a picture of Jake who had been begging for ages to go up on the roof. He finally got his wish. Mary and Andy are off to the Vancouver area today to get the feel of the land as they hope to relocate there this summer.
Facebook sure helped me out yesterday. I had sent an alumni reunion invite to a close friend that I had lost contact with and the envelope came back. The post office had her new address on it but wouldn't forward so I got on the computer and started looking around. Found her in an assisted living place about two miles from where I used to live in Kirkland. We talked on the phone and then I got a hold of her niece in Seattle (who was always wondering where she was) and got caught up on the latest. Doris' sister, Alice, had died a couple years ago and I just found her obit.
Poulsbo - Alice Leona Anderson died peacefully in Bremerton Washington on Sunday, June 7, 2020, at the age of 81. Alice was born in Juneau, Alaska. She grew up in Port Townsend where she graduated from high school. She went on to work 30+ years for Pacific Northwest Bell. Starting out as a customer service rep and by the time she retired she had risen to the level of upper management. After retirement, she went on to fulfill a lifetime dream of hers. She received her BA from the Jackson School of International Studies at U of W. Alice took great pride in doing a job well done. Alice was intelligent, dedicated, and hard-working. Her interests and accomplishments included reading, writing, gardening, and spending time with family especially her grandchildren. She valued the many friendships she made while working at the phone company. She enjoyed acting in the local Community Theater Group. In fact, she often boasted about performing on Broadway (the local theater was located on Broadway Street). Alice was passionate about traveling and especially enjoyed her trips to China. She was thrilled when she was allowed to tour the telephone company. All of Alice's friends and family will remember her as the eternal optimist. Alice is predeceased by her parents and her sister Eunice. Alice is survived by her three children, Colette Bjorkelo, Kip Anderson, Mike Anderson, and her two grandchildren, McKenna Bjorkelo-Lund (Craig), Lilly Bjorkelo (Tristan). One sister Doris. A memorial service will be announced at a future date.
I'm hoping to get over to Kirkland with a friend to visit Doris this summer.
Well, the neighbor just brought me a plate of cookies so I'm gonna' tune in to golf and eat some!
