My day started pretty nice as I arranged my bedroom to work on cutting out tiny applique pieces to make some Sunbonnet Sue squares. I had moved my sewing machine to the living room but intended to keep the bedroom arranged to do all my cutting, ironing and such in there. I like things neat so I worked at how to do that, as well. I probably spent two hours on that and then moved to the sewing machine.
I was trying to use up this heatnbond adhesive paper I had on hand so I could start using this other stuff I ordered online which is supposed to be better for sewing on. This is how stupid I am. I KNEW my machine wasn't going to appreciate sewing over the material that had this glue on it but I got it in my head that I could trick her because the pieces were small. Yep. No brains. Before I got to the point where things were gumming up, I had problems getting my needle threaded. My automatic needle threader quit working months back so I have to use my eyeball AND IT'S HARD! Then I decided I would change needles and I spent entirely too much time trying to get another needle inserted. My shoulders and neck started to hurt and I felt a headache coming on.
Once I got one in, the machine figured she'd had enough and started to gum up and I tried again and again to make her cooperate. I tried to insert a fresh needle but realized I don't really know the difference in needle sizes. Maybe I was using the wrong size. I'm going to buy some fresh needles and pay attention.
I couldn't get a needle inserted again and since I also couldn't get a needle threaded and I couldn't make the machine sew, I decided THE HELL WITH IT! I didn't cry but I almost did. I had the machine serviced a while back and when I say a while back, I have no idea how long ago that was. Knowing me and my memory, it was probably two years ago! At any rate, the machine could probably use a good cleaning again but it's so expensive and you know what.....I don't think I even like my machine now. I've been thinking I might invest in a newer model. Not a big fancy wancy one with a computer that does all kinds of stuff ('cause I'm just not that good at sewing) but I would like a machine that is a basic good one and easier to use than the one I have now.
As close as I can tell,my machine may have come out in 2010. Janome bought out New Home and that was my first machine ever. And it was a good one too. I'd probably buy another Janome but not necessarily. I know what I want and what I don't want so I'll probably have to do some homework online before I hit a store in Silveredale. I assume that's where I'd have to go. I won't deal with the Port Angeles guy. He's a jerk. Maybe Sequim? I hate having to go across that damn bridge!
I've watched enough youtube videos on sewing to know there's a lot easier machines to use than this one. I'd like a bigger plate area, a better light, a better back stitch button, an easier one to thread the bobbin, an easier one to oil and clean, and an easier one to free motion sew on. I also don't like the area where you snip off the threads and I don't like the sound of mine. Doesn't purr like I want it to.
I'll start over again tomorrow. And I might even see if Bergstrom is still servicing machines. Going to have to make a decision sooner or later 'cause I've got a ton of material now and I want to play with it.
Here's the three little ones I didn't get to complete. I will try to do some hand embroidering on them later tonight but if I don't, I'll pull out my cross stitch project. It's more calming anyway.
