Things to work on for the new year

One of my favorite channels (using my roku device) is Youtube. And I pretty much tune it in every night. I love to watch the shag dancers, stories with dogs, cooking and household and handy tips on anything, music videos, quilting, sewing, and health. The other night I came across Dr. Eric Berg. Look him up. He’s got lots of good stuff to learn.

What caught my eye was 6 signs of dementia.  That damn disease is becoming more and more of an issue in our society now and I think we all worry about it attacking us and how would we manage. Who would take care of us, etc.  I’m going to go back and watch more of his videos as he has several I’m interested in.

My neighbor, who doesn’t have a tv or a computer asked me what the signs were so I thought I would post on my blog and print it off for her.  I’ll paraphrase to make it shorter.

Poor organization skills. Can’t plan things or work them through.

Personality changes.

Constipation. Your brain and your gut are very much connected.

Sensory dysfunction, Smell, eyesight, hearing, taste, appetite

Language. You repeat and mix up your words. You might speak a sentence and it might not make sense.

Navigation. Your GPS is off and you can’t find your destination.

Ways to correct the situation:

Diet is very important. You need to stop alcohol consumption and cut way down on sugar and carbs. The more you take of these, the more you become deficient in thiamine. (Vit 1) Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s are also a problem with Thiamine deficiency.

Eat a variety of vegetables; not just the usual ones you always eat. Eat more organic and cut way down on GLUTEN.

FAST! I used to do this once a week and I’m going to get back into it.

Get more ketones like MCT OIL, extract EGB761

Eat sprouts. Like broccoli sprouts.  These are especially good for you.

Take ginkgo biloba and lions mane mushroom.

Get more omega 3 fatty acids (like fatty fish), Vit D, zinc, cod liver oil.

And of course…exercise and sleep.

It's 10:30 a.m. as I sit here watching the weather out my window. The wind is blowing and snow is predicted but rain should arrive next week. I've been housebound since the snow hit on Christmas day. I would have loved to gone out and take pictures but I know my limitations. I can't drive in the white stuff and I can't walk it in anymore either. Fear of falls. Such is the passage of time.

Called my cousin, Linda, in Kentucky this morning to wish her a happy 77th birthday.  Not really so happy for her though. She's had a tough year. Was in the hospital with covid for two weeks in January and then she had a pacemaker put in. Her husband had surgery for pancreatic cancer. Got rid of that and now he has lung cancer. She said she's tired all the time and very depressed.  I would be too!

Am thinking I'm going to cancel my online subscription to the Leader when it runs out. Can't find anything on there. I've been looking at obits and no new ones appear. Then I hear from a Facebook friend that there's a couple under "community record".  I can't find that online either so I wrote the editor to complain.  Tried calling but no one seems to be at their desk.

Mary and Jake drove up yesterday to deliver gifts and visit. I told her to stay home and off the road but she never listens to me. Was nice to see them, though. And she went to the store for me. (and her dad who lives two blocks away)

Today I plan on sewing and working on a jigsaw puzzle.  I finished two quilts  yesterday but still have a ton of material I want to get my hands on.  Hmmmm...I see a line of blue sky over the roof across the courtyard. I hope that means we aren't getting more snow afterall.

I sure have been having an interesting time in dreamland at night. Man oh man!  Last night I was back at my childhood home on Kuhn.  The roof had fallen in and dad was trying to salvage what he could to keep our home intact. I told him to call aunt Elva and see if we could stay at her Beckett Point cabin. He said he'd pay her $1200 a month rent. Where in the hell did that come from?!  And the dreams just kept going on and on.  In another I was in a car with Linda Pedersen and Linda Wilson. Linda P. was driving (way too fast) through heavy rain and she was trying to find her way home in a strange city. It went on and on.

I wish I had some molasses on hand. I'd like to make these ginger cream cookies that I was given for Christmas. Like I need more sweets in the house.  Well, problem solved. Neighbor didn't have any molasses but she had an excess of choc. chip cookies to I took three. All is right with the world again.

Ha Ha  I just gave my neighbor a print out of the dementia signs and she said: I don't want to change my diet. I think I'd rather be crazy.

Saw these pics on Facebook that the PT Main Street Program took. They're terrific.

I've been watching this show on Amazon Prime called Voltaire High. 1960s high school setting in England I think. It's different but holding my interest. Also following Yellowstone and I had to subscribe to Paramount+ to see 1883. I'll probably cancel once that runs out. It's only $5 a month since I kept the commercials.  My grandmother (dad's mom) was born in 1883 in Nebraska. In case you wondered. haha

Well, just got a text from Mary. She's in Tacoma with Catie and Louie and Catie's dad having lunch and will head home to Vancouver soon. She said the roads are so-so. Mostly slush. I'll still be glad when she's home.

Gotta' put my vitamins in their little cups now. Dinner will be leftover soup I made from a rice and chicken casserole from the other night.  Lunch is going to be french fries cooked in the air fryer along with  a chicken sandwich. I ground up half a cornish game hen the other day and made a sandwich spread out of it.  Okay. I guess that's enough boring stuff for today.

Here's a 500-pc jigsaw puzzle that Jake bought me for Xmas at the Dollar Store. I'll work on it once I finish the one in process now. Look how tiny those pieces are! It's 14x11
