I watch these videos on Youtube about mask making and they all look so simple and easy. I tell myself "I can do that!" But then.....no....I can't. I've made 3 or 4 different types and I don't like any of them. As I struggled with the two this morning, I was taken back in time to my days in home ec in high school when sewing skills were taught in the second half of the year. I remember making an apron, a skirt, and a pair of pajamas. The whole experience of trying to learn the machine and steps involved gave me a lot of stress. I've always had a bad habit of looking at what other people are making and thinking theirs are way better. I did this in the earlier grades too when we had dental poster contests and we had to show our artistic ability. I remember Jim Pedersen was really good at art and Linda Scott was too. She was also extra efficient at sewing. I remember one year I picked Donald Guthrie's poster to be in the finals but my teacher overruled me because he had spelled a word wrong. I still felt his printing and art work were terribly good.
Anyhow, I finished off my two masks today.
This bottom one is supposed to have pleats going up and down. You can't really see my pleats in this photo. And I've already decided I won't wear either of these. After I finished this ordeal I went on to something I was more comfortable with.
One of the women I follow on Youtube is having a "quilt along." She designs a quilt square and gives you the sizes. Plans to make either 9 or 12 of them. This was #5. Fairly simple.
I've got this movie on now called "The art of racing in the rain." Boy, is it ever good!
Am done sewing for the day and intend to pick up my genealogy notes and get busy on that. Something I find a lot of pleasure in.
I also made up a batch of cupcakes. Smells good in here. They're white and I'll frost with chocolate. An then share with neighbors so I don't eat them all.
Catie and Louie stopped in last night and she brought me my Christmas present. She's such a good arts and crafter. I put it outside my door on my little shelf.
Yesterday I found a picture on ancestry of one of my grandparents. Not sure if he's great, great, great, great but somewhere around there. His name is Isham. His son was Zachariah and his son was Zadock and his son was Lewis M. and his son was Lew Gene, and his son was my dad, John.
I wish I had more pictures but if there's one of Isham, surely I'll eventually find the guys that came after him.
Well, I guess I'll get those cupcakes frosted and maybe get a few pages read in my latest by Hillary Clinton and Louise Penny. I've got a new neighbor moving in Jan. 26th right across the hall. Steve something or another.
Tonight I'm cooking a Cornish game hen and mashed potatoes for dinner. I fixed fish and chips last night. Way too much trouble to try and use the air fryer for the fish so I just used oil and use the air fryer for the fries. Pretty dang tasty too!
