I've been in the process of "details" regarding my upcoming move next month. I changed my address with the post office and they required a $1.25 charge. Used to be free. Not only that, they sent me a scan code to take to the post office with my ID to verify it's me. Damn nuisance! But I jumped through their hoops.
Then I went to my bank (am keeping First Fed) even though Vancouver doesn't have a FF. I'm used to their website and don't want to be messing around with changing my automatic deposits. I seldom write checks anymore as I pretty much use my debit card. I did want to find out, though, how I would write a check (should I want to) once my checks run out. I have 60 onhand and I'm sure that will last a long time. When I called the 1-800 number to see if I could order one box (just in case) I was told I had to buy 2 boxes. Well I don't need 200 checks and when she said the minimum I could spend was $44, I told her that was too much and to never mind. I asked the guy at the bank how I would deposit a check if someone sent me one. He told me various things (all seemed way too complicated) and then told me I could go to Costco to get something or another? When I asked him how I would deposit cash if and when I got some, he was unsure how I would do it. Maybe that was the Costco system he talked about? I'll worry about all that later. They suggested using my phone but I don't bank with my phone and wouldn't know how to start. I suppose Mary could help me.
My apartment is stacked with boxes, mostly packed but I still have six weeks to finish up odds and ends and see if I can't find more stuff to downsize. I think I'm pretty well finished in that area, though, as I've given away a ton of stuff. I've also managed to get the larger items down to a minimum. One dresser, one tv and table, one kitchen table and two chairs, two office chairs, one recliner (which comes apart), one tall cupboard that will be my pantry, and one small trunk that holds blankets. Was able to give away my bed and I don't have any appliances so hopefully, the move will go smoothly. I still worry that two SUVs and a Uhaul trailer won't hold it all but the kids assure me it will fit. I need to quit worrrying. Yeah, like that's gonna happen. Ha!
The neighbor's cat woke me up at 4:30 this morning. She lets it out in the hallway and he meows SUPER LOUD. I was pissed. Happens a lot. I'm going to the doctor Thursday to ask again if there's anything I can do for my feet neuropathy. It's getting worse and keeping me awake at night. I'm finding that my gait walking is very stiff and "old lady" looking. I keep changing shoes trying to find something that will allow me to walk without pain. I'm also finding that I've got to keep a walking stick with me. I can barely step down off curbs anymore and it's embarrassing. Not to mention scary as I almost stumble and fall. I've probably got 5 pairs of sneakers (all good ones) but nothing allows me to walk with comfort. If I didn't have my walker, I'd be in a hell of a pickle. I intend to take it to the parade this Saturday and to alumni next month.
My cousin Linda is visiting from KY although they must be out and about as I haven't heard from her yet. I know she'll want to go to the casino so I'll be taking the walker along then, as well.
Mary sent me a diagram of her house so I can get an idea of how the apartment is set up. I'm in blue.
She also sent me a photo of plants and a hummingbird feeder that her and Jake set up for me. And Andy put up black out curtains in my bedroom. So sweet.
