I had mentioned to Mary that I kind of wanted to see what Camas looked like. She told me they were close to Camas so today she took me for a drive. It was fun.She went the back way so it was country scenes all the way. Once we got there, I was really surprised at how the town looked. I guess I hadn't really thought much about what Camas would look like but it sure didn't look like I thought it was going to. Lots of tree lined streets and had a hometown cozy feel to it. The kind of place I could find myself wanting ot live in.
this is the movie house. Barbie was showing. And where the mill was kind of surprised me too. Right in the middle of town.
I even liked the looks of their library.
We got a soft ice cream cone and then drove to her cousin's place in Brush Prairie. Because we went the back way from Camas to get there, we drove and drove and drove on country roads. Yet Mary told me he was actually only 5 miles from her house. When we left there, she went home and it was much quicker.
Super friendly guy, down to earth and the kind you wish lived closer so you could visit. He's been a journeyman in several trades but the last place he worked burned down so he's out of work. Sorta.
He was having a yard sale and I asked him how he could make any money on a yard sale being so isolated. He told me this is the 4th weekend he's had it and he nets about $1200 each time. He had a huge selection and told me he's one of those guys who hits storage unit sales. All the more fascinating to me.
He has four dogs and 1 pig. The pig lives in the house with them and obeys commands like sit. He was adorable.
Jake picked up a couple of game box gadgets and I was thrilled with the 3x5 black mat I got to go under my office chair. I'd been trying ot use throw rugs but they just weren't working. I wish now I had bought two mats. Anyhow, the mat is down now and I'm loving it. Jake also got a motorcycle helmet. Like new but it looks way too big for his head. I had a really hard time walking as the ground was uneven but Aaron had a pair of crutches to sell so I used one as a walking stick to browse his merchandise.
The thing that amused me while we drove along was how Jake really knew his music. We had to listen to stuff I hated but at least it wasn't too loud. I thought it was rap but he informed me it was hip hop. He also made mention of something he called throwback. Kind of surprised me how knowledgeable he was about music being only 9 years old.
Mary also took me to see Jake's school and where he'll go when he hits junior high.
Now that we're back home, Jake is getting ready to go in his pool and I'm thinking I might need a nap. Golf is on but it wasn't as much fun today because one guy has been way ahead the whole two days.
I'm thinking I might check out the Newcomers Club on Tuesday. They have a 10 a.m. coffee hour and later in the week I may check out other activities at the senior center. Been working on another jigsaw puzzle while listening to an audio tape and that's about it for me today. Here's Jake with two of his friends in the backyard.
