I couldn't find much to interest me on my various Roku stations last night. Kind of knew that was going to happen once I finished binge watching The Sopranos. Even with its language and violence, I do like that show. A lot. Have watched all six seasons 3 times now. I found six new "free" stations to add to my lineup on Roku but except for the one giving me the local Seattle news station, all of them were kind of stupid and probably not something I'd spend any time watching.
I have a tendency to surf Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu although I'm canceling Hulu once Jen gets in her new house and can order the station herself. I also have 'TuneIn" on my lineup and that lets me browse radio stations all over the U.S. I usually stop on old country. The one on in my bedroom this morning was from VA and they talked about their 80's weather.
Anyhow, last night when I couldn't settle in to a movie, I pulled out my laptop (it's a larger version) and set myself up with it so I could watch in my recliner and have my feet up. Been bothered with my feet swelling now and then so I'm making an effort to cut down on salt and keep my feet elevated. I have to set the laptop on a cushion that has a writing board bottom so the heat from it is sitting on the hard surface and not my lap. Why I'm even bothering to tell you all this is beyond me but I guess I'm in a rambling mood.
I ended up watching my new favorite lady online. Darlene Michaud. I put her blog into my favorites as that takes me to everything she has. Ebay sales, her blog, her quilt videos, and her "tag along" series. (darlenemichaud.com)
I first came across Darlene when I watched her videos on making crumb quilts. Pretty soon, I discovered she had a whole series of videos out there plus a blog. I was especially interested in her old sewing machine she uses on her quilt videos and lo and behold, she did a video on that machine and let us tour her house. (Said she had received a ton of questions about that old machine) Well, after that video I couldn't get enough of ole Darlene. She's a riot and probably one of the most down to earth people I've ever watched. She's got her warts and demons and doesn't hesitate to say so. Come to find out she's a hoarder too. She said she's watched that show on tv and always felt both disgust and sympathy. Same here.
Then I found a series of videos (youtube.com if you're not familiar with videos) where she actually took her camera with her on her errands to Walmart, the doctor's office, and other places. Sound boring? Nope. Not in the least! As I rolled over in bed this morning, groaning, as usual, at everything that hurt on my body, I laid there contemplating what was on my schedule. Pretty much the same as yesterday -- whatever I felt like doing. Ha!
I started painting some large rocks yesterday and that was fun. Today I'm going to work on sewing. I've got a little tv in there that has a built in VCR so I stick in old movies for company. I've probably got about 75 movies to choose from in VHS form so that ought to keep me going for a while. My last two were The Music Man and King Solomon's Mines. Here's my rocks...
This ark one turned out especially cute. I found some of these patterns in an applique quilt book. I traced the pattern using carbon paper onto the rock and then painted it and highlighted with a fine point Sharpie pen. (they come in various colors too)
Cough...cough, sputter, sputter... just choked on the vitamin pills I tried to down all at once. I've noticed I'm waking up fairly stuffed up and miserable these past mornings. Change of seasons I suppose. Perhaps I'd better pull out my humidifier and be more diligent about using it during the night. Got things on my "to do" list for the next couple of weeks and I don't have time for the sniffles or coughing or any of the other nasty things my body does to me these days. Which reminds me....I think I'll get out the air filter I have stored away in the closet too. I've noticed that hours spent in the sewing room usually make me sneeze and feel congested after a while. I'm sure it the lint and dust from the material I'm throwing around in there. I guess every hobby is gonna' have it's pitfalls.
I haven't been using my new drill much. A little intimidating so I need to remember that it's useful for a whole lot more than just drilling beach glass. I'll study up on that and maybe get some tutoring from Catie this weekend. Well, Jenni and Sammy just left. She's meeting Wayne to sign papers and then she'll go to the rental to spend the night. I guess I'll get off this computer and pull out the humidifier and air filter before I forget. I did stick the last of the fans in the garage so I guess that means I've accepted that fall is upon us -- or at least it will be come Friday when I turn 74. Man! 74! I wonder if I'll see 84. Hell, I wonder if I'll see 74-1/2! ha ha
Here's a couple pictures Mary shared of their day at the Puyallup Fair.
