Slept fitfully last night but I finally dropped off once it got closer to the time I had to get up. Funny how that works. I often go through that if I have any kind of medical appt the next day. I dragged myself out of bed, showered, and made my hair pretty.
Yeah, we all know that's a joke. Had a cup of tea and browsed a bit on the internet as I waited for 9 a.m. to roll around. Had to get an ultrasound on my kidneys. And doesn't that sound ominous? Sigh... My kidney numbers haven't been all that great this past year (or longer) but the doctor kept telling me it was "age related." I think that's the standard comment when you get to my age and have issues with some part of your body or another. My last blood draw again showed numbers that weren't in the standard range and I asked her outright -- doesn't anything jump out at you with number readings like that? She said maybe....let's get an ultrasound.
I was told the procedure was a piece of cake (and it was for the most part) but I was wincing in pain more than once as she moved her knob and touched rib cage bones on the right. I didn't understand anything I could see on the screen, of course, but it did give me pause when she stopped to make a line and highlight this "thingie" at the end of the line. Anybody who knows me knows that I figured SHE FOUND SOMETHING! Sigh.... I'll just have to wait a couple days and see if I get an email telling me to make an appt. But enough on that subject. I'm not one of those people who prefers her medical info be kept private. I'll tell anyone who will listen.
I left there but had to figure out going and coming exactly how to maneuver to the parking lot and out again. A lot of road reconstruction and one-way streets in place now. Stopped at Safeway to get a few items for Thanksgiving dinner next week and my daughter, Sue's birthday dinner the week after that. For the second time I couldn't find the Safeway brand (Signature) of the frozen meatballs I like. Glad I mentioned it to the clerk when I checked out as she had a guy hunt and he brought two bags of another brand and she charged me even less than the Safeway meatballs that were on sale. Those frozen balls are the only way to go for me now. Taste a whole lot better than mine and easy.
I came home and knew I had a couple of outside chores to attend to. Was glad the rain had quit so I proceeded to get busy (after I put away the groceries). I went through the house emptying out various trash cans and then took the large bag out to the bin as pick up in tomorrow morning early. Then I did the same with the recycle bin.
While opening the gate (it's really trying hard to be a gate) I decided I'd better see if my son-in-law, Wayne, has an extra bungie cord I can use for the bottom of the gate. I've got one on the top and another holding part of the fence together nearby. I don't think the builder did that great of a job because my neighbors to the west who used the same guy are also having major fall-over fence issues. Guess the ground got too wet and the wood started to rot. Whatever....
Yesterday I had a guy come and service my garage door as it always seemed way too noisy as it opened and closed. It's much better now. Anyhow, back to my yard work.
I wound up the garden hoses and unhooked them from the faucet. No easy chore, let me tell you. My poor back was killing me. I got them off and stuffed one in a garbage can on the side of the house and wound up the second one on its hose stand and wheeled it to the garage. One of the garbage cans needed the lid that I was using as a water pan for the birds. The cement underneath was full of holes. I decided I'd make some yard art and took my little bird bath and placed it on top of the larger one that is holey. It's heavy enough that the wind won't knock it over.
Then I put away a couple of things on the deck that needed to go in the garage and as I surveyed the front, I decided I would trim all the tall dead stalks and leaves on some plants near the front window. As I got down into the middle, I saw these berries I'd never noticed before. I went to Google images and "I guess" it's a black chokeberry.
The area still looks messy but it's an improvement over how it looked before I started.
I'm glad I got those outdoor jobs off my to-do list. I was determined this was the day when I woke up and saw more frost on the neighbor's roof. Noticed a lot of snow on the mountains as I drove downtown too.
I've been working on my 5th (and last) cookbook this week. Just 100 recipes and all of them easy. I had planned to give away about 30 copies but then I did the math of what it would cost for cover, printing, and postage. Decided I wasn't quite that rich (it was over a hundred dollars) so I cut my list in half. Then, on a whim, I mentioned it on Facebook to see if anyone wanted to buy one. Figured $6 would help cover the expense. I have 25 orders already. Couldn't believe it! I went to the Dollar Tree Store and bought up all their book report folders that have 3-prongs and sleeves inside as this book will be 8-1/2 X 11. I may have bought too many so I'm hoping they'll let me return what I don't need. Dollar Tree had large manila envelopes too but unfortunately, their largest size was 9x12 and I need 10x13. Had to go on Amazon and read reviews of which envelopes were better than others and I settled on a box of 100. Only wanted half that much but I suppose I'll use them eventually.
I plan on adding some clip art and pictures today and maybe get it run off on Monday so I can start putting them together and getting them in the mail. I had about a dozen Port Townsend people so I'll probably drive into town and deliver rather than mail them all. The post office gets enough of my dough as it is.
Work across the street continues. Some days I can tune it out but mostly I can't. The hammering just goes on and on, hour after hour. They seem to be getting ready to add the roof to the one directly across from my house now.
I've been sewing for weeks and now I have to sit down with all my completed projects and figure out who I can give what for Christmas. I've got quite a stash of this and that already.
Well, I guess that's it for now. Am thinking of looking button projects over on Youtube. As if I don't already have enough projects going. The patio table in the garage is covered with painted rocks -- they're getting gifted too.
Here's the latest picture about Trump that amused me on Facebook.
I don't feel like going back to proofread this so sorry for any typos.
