Gees, been a whole week again since I posted on my blog. I've got to be more consistent. On the other hand, my day-to-day activities are pretty much repeats of the same ole thing....indoor pursuits. Feeling halfway decent today. A good nights' sleep always helps. I have episodes from time to time where I'm getting horrible ankle/foot/toe cramps during the night and it throws me off big time as far as having any energy the next day. Also makes me apprehensive about going to bed at night. And then.... who knows why.... those little buggers disappear and leave me be! Then happy Joyce comes out again.
I google articles on foot cramps repeatedly but no has an answer. Drink more water and don't get old. And there are dozens of cures out there like drink pickle water, eat mustard, take potassium and magnesium, etc. And of course, there's always ...stretch and do exercises. What I don't understand is if I'm lazy about drinking a lot of water and exercising, then why do I not get those cramps every single night? Oh well, I'll just deal with it. I do need to put more effort into those stretching suggestions, though; that just makes sense.
I'm sitting here this morning (it's 9 am.) with a cup of coffee and boy, does it hit the spot! I've switched to tea and didn't have any withdrawal issues in the least but this morning, I kind of wanted coffee. Don't have any delicious creamers onhand so I put in fat free milk. Not the same but it's okay. And those creamers can get expensive overtime. Not to mention they're fattening. Yeah, like I care about that! ha ha
I have, however, been working at cutting down calories. Eating smaller meals and not buying desserts or ice cream. Have lost about 7 pounds so I think I'll stick with the routine. I do have quite a few clothes in the closet that I could wear if I only lost the weight. But I'm not going there this morning. Way too boring!
I'm working on a cookbook for Christmas gifts. Took me most of yesterday to sort through various things I've saved here and there and I got my choice list down to 100.
Categories are main dishes, salads, desserts, breads, and miscellaneous. I had a hard time, at first, because I had saved so many yummy looking dishes from Facebook posts. I discovered, however, that this cookbook was going to be one with easy only recipes.
And many I've used for years. Also wanted some healthy choices and some just for people preparing for themselves only. My baking and cooking have decreased big time over the past few years. Partly because I'm just not interested in being on my feet for a lot of prep work and partly because my eating habits have changed.
I've been doing a lot of sewing and enjoying it more than I used to. I credit my new favorite Youtube video maker for this. Darlene Michaud from Maine. She posts videos on sewing (many quilt tops), crafts, stories about her life, and trips to the stores to buy this and that. Totally amusing. Her language is salty but I'm absolutely fine with that!
I especially like her theory on making mistakes and living with it. You should check her out.
I spent a little time one day this week sorting through various junk boxes and storage places to toss out unnecessary things and sort others so everything is better organized and easier to find. I have a lot of plastic containers (for freezing) with lids that I might put on the free Clallam website just so I can clear out that shelf. Been rethinking my large collection of CDs too. I only seem to play them when I switch out my collection in the car as I depend on Pandora music in the house or I tune in various radio stations on my Roku device on the television set. So many people now (especially younger folks) have more up-to-date methods of listening and saving their tunes. I know I could use my phone for music better than I do but I have a hard time figuring out just what I can do with that phone. Mostly it irritates the hell out of me! For a long time, I couldn't call out or get calls in some days. This seemed to happen frequently and it drove me nuts. Then, I took my phone setting off my wifi and it seemed to correct itself. At least I'm able to use it for talking a whole lot more than I could before. I can barely keep up with technology.
I have this little gadget I sent for that is supposed to take all my cassette music and transfer it to my computer. It looks easy and I've done this before using the same program but with my record LPs and a turntable. This time I can't get past the first step they want me to do, which is to download a program that Itunes will recognize. Well, I downloaded it fine (I think) but Itunes doesn't ask me about the program in the steps I'm supposed to take along the way. Perhaps my Itunes is outdated but the whole system of saving music on my computer with Itunes has been nothing but a big headache for years. Long story. Meanwhile, I've got 200 cassettes I'm dying to get on my hard drive (at least some of the tunes) and I can't move forward. I refuse to throw them out. Sooner or later, somebody will come in this house who is really techie and agreeable to sitting down and helping me figure out the solution. It's going to be one of my goals for 2018.
I'm sitting in the kitchen with my laptop now. Sometimes I need to get away from the front of the house where my sewing room/office is because the constant hammering wears on my nerves. Eight homes are being built and they work 7 days a week from 7 am or so until dark. Weather doesn't seem to impede their determination to finish. We've been told it could take 10 months so I might as well get used to it. It sure is going to make my street a busy place. It already is with cars and trucks parked up and down the way.
Got behind an old guy at Safeway yesterday who was obviously CRABBY! The clerk made an error on his receipt and the guys started yelling: THIS IS BULLSHIT! How long have you been checking? Poor clerk. He was so embarrassed. I hate it when bullies do that and the people serving them have to smile and just apologize over and over. I really wanted to yell at Mr. Crabby myself and tell him to get over it! Someday, if I live long enough, I'll be that ole woman behind Mr. Crabby who tells him to shut his big fat mouth! ha ha Another goal for 2018!
Started a book last night by Don DeLillo called Underworld. Big fat book. 827 pages and NO PICTURES. hee hee So far the first 50 pages are pretty darn good. By the way, if you want to read a good book, look for my brother's book on Amazon and Kindle.
CRAVENSTONE: Time Enhancers by Dage Corvish.
Well, here are a few photos: three from the Leader this week and three I saw on granddaughter Maddie's Facebook page. One of my dad in the marines and the t-shirt front my friend, Ann, got from her kids a few days ago. Too cute.
